Misty's Story

(by Leigha Messick)

One of the coolest things about working at the Humane Society is having an office cat. They come and sit in your lap when you need cheering up, they love to walk on your keyboard when you have a deadline and nothing brings a smile to your face like cat vomit on your important papers! All jokes aside, they really are a joy to have around.

Misty was the perfect (or so our Director Jean says) office kitty. She is a beautiful long-haired Calico with a "take no prisoners" kind of attitude. She strutted her stuff around here like she owned the place and never once enjoyed being put in her cage at night. She was notorious for scratching important papers to shreds, and expected her people to never, ever brush her (we had to. of course. and have the scars to remember her by). Jean called her high and mighty attitude "personality" but we just called her spoiled. And we loved that spoiled girl!

One day Misty ventured out of the office right at the moment that Robert Dobry was in looking for a new cat. He, like Jean, was taken by her and decided he had found the cat for him. So after 5 years of ruling the roost here at the Humane Society we tearfully and joyfully said goodbye to our Misty who had finally found her forever home.

Misty is still the same cat, just in a new home. She still bosses her people around and they, like us, love her for it. She wakes them up at 5:30 a.m. every morning begging for her food and had no problem knocking over the Christmas tree. She has a harder time scratching things in her home now that her people put Soft Paws on her, and they agree that while she is a bit moody, she is a very loving girl!

After our Misty found herself a home we spent some time moping about missing her antics. Eventually we decided that we needed to have another cat join us in our daily adventures here in the office, and ended up with 2 office kitties! Aunt Bea and Butta (aka Beefy and El Duapo) are AMAZING cats full of "personality" and have a great story! I'd love to tell you all about them, swing by someday and I'll introduce you to this wonderful pair!
