| | "Sneakers, Going Home!!" |
Those of us who work or volunteer at a shelter all know that there are many times we shed tears. Tears for people turning over beloved pets due to life's many obstacles, tears for animals who have been abandoned or abused. It is rare that we get to experience tears of joy.
Well, those tears came to us on Friday March 4th. That is a day that many of us had hoped and wished would come for almost a year.
Sneakers joined our family here at HSCC on April 26th 2010. She was left in our night drop with no note; we didn't even know her name. She was extremely skinny, weighing in at only 46 pounds. We named her Sneakers because she would sneak inside and grab her food bowl to let us know she was hungry.
We learned a lot about this beautiful girl during the 10 months she was with us. We learned that she was smarter than most people we know, and that she had a heart of gold as long (as you were not the resident house cat, Holly). She worked with Lance, owner of "Sit Means Sit" dog training, and showed off her talents at our Junior Volunteer Orientations. She joined in on many fun games with the hose in summer, and LOVED to play with her ball!
We know that 10 months is too long for a dog to be kenneled. Even with extra attention from staff and volunteers, we noticed last month that Sneakers was becoming a bit depressed sitting here in the shelter, so we asked volunteers to spread the word about how wonderful she is. The networking paid off for Sneakers. She found her new home last week. She is no longer sitting in a dog run, wishing for a family to lover her.
Above is a picture of Sneakers leaving. Thankfully Mr. Joseph Nappi has given her the family and home she deserves!
