Serviceman & Dogs Reunited

Secrest dogs

How do you thank a young service member when he is out of the country protecting us back here at home?  You take care of his dogs if you get the opportunity.  We received two dogs as strays a few weeks ago. Because one of the dogs had a microchip, it took a very short time to determine that he had been adopted from The Humane Society. A few phone calls later it was determined that they belonged to one of our young men in uniform.  He was out of the country in Afghanistan trying to get back home so he could take care of things here.  We let him know that his dogs were safe and could stay here at the Humane Society as long as needed. When word got out, almost immediately we started getting donations from concerned citizens to care for these dogs.  With these generous gifts, we were able to spay the female (the male adopted from us was already neutered) and we updated vaccines and heartworm tests.  Finally their owner made it back home and immediately came to see his dogs.  He had some arrangements to make before taking them home but a short week later they were all reunited for good.  He brings them to visit us occasionally and you can see the joy on all three faces as they run and play together.

at Bark in the Park!!

Walk 2010

.
Bark in the Park was held on Sunday, October 10th, on a truly beautiful day. Over 1600 guests attended throughout the day, and many, many more dogs than years past converged on the park and participated in the Walk for the Animals.

We asked, "Could we raise $40,000 at our 11th annual Bark in the Park," and you responded with a resounding, "Yes we can!" We signed on more sponsors this year, and our dedicated supporters raised more in pledges than ever before. Given the economic climate, this feat is doubly amazing!  Thanks to all who supported us in so many ways - sponsors,  fundraisers, Junior fundraisers participants and donors, planning committee and volunteers.  Thank you all - it was a great day!!
