Victim of Gross Neglect!
No, she's not deformed.  That's not a hunchback.  Her haircoat is MATTED so badly that she can't bend her legs and has difficulty walking.  It took months and months of neglect for her to get to this horrible condition.  Where was the family who loved her as a cute little puppy and promised her they would care for her forever?

Two Humane Society staff members worked for over three hours to clip and shave her so that she could move freely again.  Sunshine sat very patiently (and gratefully) the entire time they worked on her.  After a bath, she romped around again like a young puppy.  She looks  and feels much better and we will have her professionally groomed later this week.  Soon she will be ready for a new home with someone who will make an true commitment to always care for her.

Working Together to Save Gilligan
Gilligan Sheltie    Late one Friday night, a member of the Humane Society of Calvert County stopped at the Benedict Bridge to try to rescue a small dog that was running in the road. Unfortunately, he was scared to death and just wouldn't come to her.  She worried about him all night and all weekend.
The next afternoon, several concerned citizens spotted him again. They tried to form a road block and catch him but he darted between them, out in to traffic and was hit by a car.  Charles County Animal Control was contacted and transported him to the Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Waldorf for overnight care. The Humane Society of Charles County was contacted then because he was an injured stray found in Charles County.
We brought him to our in-house clinic the next morning, x-rayed his leg, and found that he had a dislocated hip.  Gilligan, as we named him, is still here under treatment but will be ready for adoption in a few weeks. One family has already expressed interest in adopting him.
It is wonderful to have so many members of the community come together to help.  Thanks to their concern and support, Gilligan will have a second chance at life.

Thank you to everyone who helped in so many ways!
Sincerely,
Jean Stuller
