girl kissing cat

Dear Pet Lovers,
During the month of June, we're offering a "Month of Free Love"  with free cat adoptions!  All cats one year or older will be free to approved adopters.  Whether you prefer young and frisky or mature and mellow, you're sure to find the perfect cat waiting at the Humane Society.
While the playful antics of kittens are hard to resist, adult cats are often better suited to families with young children.  Mature cats usually respond better to the clumsy handling of inquisitive toddlers.  In this busy world, many households will find a grown up cat that can turn on occasional playfulness a better match than a constantly rambunctious kitten.
All of our cats have been spayed or neutered, tested for felv/fiv, and are current on their vaccines.
Sincerely,
Jean Stuller
Director of Operations

Whitney & owner, Harry
"Whitney is Smiling"
Yes, Whitney is smiling and she has a lot to smile about these days. Whitney, a Pit Bull mix,  was turned in to the Humane Society last October by her former owner because she had mange.  She was only 10 weeks old.
Whitney had some spots of hair loss on her face but had the type of mange that is not contagious to other animals.  Her condition was treated at the Humane Society for about three weeks and then she was spotted by Harry Renninger who immediately adopted her and continued the treatment.
Today, Whitney and Harry are the best of buddies.  She is now about 10 months old and is happy and beautiful.  Her favorite game is "tug" but she eagerly looks forward to her twice daily walks with Harry around the neighborhood where she is a favorite of all the children.   They give her hugs and treats; she gives them big smiles and sloppy kisses in return.

BonBon - 14 years of Love
Bon Bon kittyWe love receiving stories of happy adoptions.  BonBon's adopter recently sent this letter:

"In 1996 when she was just sixteen, my daughter, Jaime, was doing volunteer work at your shelter.  She fell in love with an injured cat that you were rehabilitating named BONBON, who had a fractured hip among other injuries as a result of abuse. Begging me to adopt this cat, she described her as a little angel, so sweet that we had to help her. Because we had another cat, I was reluctant but we did adopt BonBon.

I am writing because fourteen years later, after a very happy, healthy life, BonBon died of kidney disease.  She was the best friend that I ever had, loyal to the end.  Even when she was in pain and dying, she still showed me her love, and did not complain.  I miss her terribly, but I know she is an angel.

This letter is a tribute to what you do at the Humane Society. BonBon had made a full recovery from her injuries and was able to run and jump again. Never doubt that you mend these animals broken hearts as well as their bones".
     Thank you again,

     Cheryl Lawshe
