March 2010
Dear Friend:

Winter is almost over!  I believe we have had our share of snow this year, breaking the 100 year old record set in 1910.  Maybe we won't see this much again until 2110 and by then, I won't have to shovel it!

At the beginning of the year I said I would continue to keep you informed of issues happening in the banking world.  We all know the government is trying to stop "bad behavior" by banks, but in the process continue to make things more difficult for those doing it "right" as well.

In August of 2010, a new regulation will go into effect that requires customers to "opt in" to allow to having their account charged an overdraft fee on electronic purchases.  In other words, if you overdraw your checking account with a debit card purchase, the bank is not permitted to authorize that transaction and charge your account an overdraft fee without your express written consent.

There are several issues that this will cause for both customers and banks.  If customers do not "opt in" they will avoid the overdraft charges, however, the bank will have no obligation to pay the charges (essentially declining the transaction).  Banks will likely respond by shutting off cards for those overdraw their accounts and do not "opt in" to the overdraft charge.

In most cases, regulations require individuals to "opt out" of certain practices.  This regulation requires the customer to actually sign a document allowing the overdraft.  I believe this will cause  confusion for many customers.  We will be mailing several of these "opt in" documents over the next few months and hope to also provide you with some education on the benefits and pitfalls of an overdraft fee.

If you have any questions please contact me at 740-943-2317 and I would be happy to talk about this or any other issue you would like to discuss.

Have a safe March!

FEATURED BUSINESS

In September of 1991, when my husband Bob Isennagle, and I Jan purchased Jan's Pizza, located behind the old Shell Oil Station in Plain City, Ohio, it manifested our dream of being business owners in an industry well familiar to Bob. The combination of great food and great service has richly awarded us in many ways.

In 1996, we embarked upon an even greater journey when we aquired our biggest competitor, Little Tony's Pizza, long owned by the DeMatteo family. The next two years challanged us to operate both pizza shops independently while maintaining their inherited menus and recipes..

Continued talk of the proposed by-pass for St Rt 42 around the village at its west end, prompted us to evaluate the continued use of the original Jan's Pizza location from the prespective of the potential for fututre growth. As with any business, the phrase- "Location! Location! Location!" is an important indicator when making decisions. Certainly, future growth of the village will result with an increase of traffic associated with the proposed by-pass. Little Tony's Pizza was purchased with the intention of satisfying the need for such growth.

On July 4th 1998, the move was completed! Jan's Pizza now shared a building with Little Tony's Pizza, and Jan & Tony's Pizza was born.

As the village of Plain City continues to expand, we are ready to meet the needs of our new neighbors who join us each day. A continued commitment to provide excellent food, excellent service, and absolutely the best value for your dollar is at the heart of our business. We believe that by doing right by our neighbors, our customers, and our crew, we will reap the benefits of community support. Our pledge to you is to do the best job possible while asking you to please continue to make Jan & Tony's a place you can frequent often with confidence.

Q. Dad gives his son money every day to put in his new piggy bank. He gives money to you in such a way that the money in the piggy bank doubles with each passing day. If the son already has 1 cent in the piggy bank and the dad   gives him 1 cent the first day, 2 cents the second day, 4 cents the third day and so on, then his piggy bank gets full on the 14th day. On which day will his piggy bank be half-full?

Getting to know your banker!

Hi, my name is Debbie Wright. I have been with The Richwood Banking Company for almost 2 years now as an account representive at the main office in Richwood. I enjoy my job very much. I've learned so much about the banking world and look forward to learning more.

I have a son Derek who is working and going to school part time at OSU Marion. My daughter Sarah and her husband Jon are completing their Masters in education this fall at OSU Marion.  I have 2 kids at home that I pamper, both are Chocolate Labs (Gert & Rylee). I enjoy taking them for walks at the park and around town.

I am an active member of the Richwood Church of Christ where I help out at the concession at Upward games. I teach the little ones in wee worship and help with lots of special occasions. I enjoy cooking, doing word puzzles, playing games on my computer, taking walks, football season and getting together with friends for a game night. I am looking forward to spring since I don't like walking in the cold as much.  I plan on enjoying a family vacation with my parents, my sisters and their families and my kids this summer.

The Dangers of Ice and Snow on Your Roof

Something that a lot of people might not be aware of is how important it is to keep ice and snow from building up on your roof. It can lead to gutter separation and damage. Ice can get under your shingles and break the seal, and it can lead to roof sheathing damage.  As the ice & snow melts, it can soak your insulation, which in turn can lead to drywall damage on your ceiling and walls. So when you see the ice and snow start to pile up on your roof, try to remove it from the edges as often as possible.

You are invited.
