"To find suitable persons for the Episcopal ministry and
aid them in acquiring a thorough education"

SIM's founding purpose on October 2, 1857;

our ministry ever since.

"For everything there is a season"

Ecclesiastes 3.1

Seal
Greetings!,

Always one of SIM's busier months, May this year was especially so - the "commencement" season of endings and beginnings:
      • fifty of our seminarians graduated and joined the ranks of over 2600 SIM alumni.
      • our Scholarship Committee reviewed applications and allocated next year's grants to 99 seminarians from 54 dioceses.
      • at our annual meeting, three board members completed their terms, seven new board members were elected and a new strategic direction was voted.

        May 2012 - a very rewarding month for our ministry indeed!
One of the most exciting aspects of our ministry is the joy of sharing in the quality of the seminarians in which we (donors, alumni, board, staff and other SIM supporters) have invested. On my recent visit to VTS (Virginia Theological Seminary), I was captivated by the seminarians' creative solutions to being true to their calls while confronting the difficult state of affairs of church employment. Several seniors had received the more traditional calls as curates or Priest Associates, but others had pieced together part-time parish ministry with non-parish positions such as a spiritual direction practice or a weekly chaplaincy role.

At the 2012 Nashotah House graduation, SIM's former Scholarship Program Administrator, the Rev. Canon Jerry Carroon, attended the 50th anniversary of his graduation from Nashotah House, held in conjunction with the graduation ceremony.

Jerry returned excited about SIM students in this year's class. "SIM has every right to be proud of the seminarians we sponsored at Nashotah House this year. Their achievements were all over Nashotah's graduation program!"

Most exciting was the board vote to commence seeking participation from diocesan bishops in SIM's partnership with the George W. Mercer Fund of the Diocese of Long Island on a merit scholarship program.

Donating to SIM affords the opportunity to share in the excitement of SIM's ministry of investing in future ordained leaders of The Episcopal Church.

Faithfully,
