Raising the Church's Awareness of
Seminarian Indebtedness

Seal
As most of you know, SIM has been in the forefront of raising the Church's awareness of the critical and debilitating problem of seminarian indebtedness. For the next three Sundays, September 13, 20 and 27, Episcopal Life Online has published a bulletin insert series to educate the Church, explore this crisis and discuss solutions.  The notification from Episcopal Life Online appears below:

[Episcopal News Service] The problem of seminarian debt is growing, according to the Society for Increase of the Ministry, a 150-year-old organization that assists those preparing for leadership roles in the Episcopal Church. Episcopal Life Weekly bulletin inserts for September 13, 20 and 27 mark the beginning of the school year by exploring the facts of academic debt and possible solutions.

Inserts for September 13 are titled "Debt."  Those for September 20 are titled "Answering God's call: Here I am." The series concludes with the September 27 insert, "How to solve the seminarian debt crisis."

Bulletin inserts may be downloaded here:

The bulletins were prepared largely by our staff with consultation from the Church Pension Fund and Episcopal Life.

We encourage you to "pay forward" in support of SIM's mission to remain faithful to its original and same purpose set forth at its founding in 1857: "The object of this corporation shall be to furnish means for the education of candidates for holy orders in the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States." Please support the future ordained leadership of the Episcopal Church by inserting these bulletins in your Sunday programs, using them for discussing this critical issue and responding to the crisis by encouraging donations to SIM.
