1 for 50 E-blast December 2010

Greetings!
In a basement classroom in a beautiful Catholic convent in Lebanon overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, 45 leaders from 20 nations gathered for the first international 1 for 50 Global Training Summit (September 19-20). These leaders all came together to immerse themselves in the 1 for 50 vision, gain orientation to the current curriculum tools and resources available, and begin planning training strategies for their nations and regions.
- "I think the most helpful piece was gathering with people from all over the world where God is moving in powerful ways."
- "The whole program has been an eye-opener - a revelation to me!"
- "Reaching children is God's heart and his heart is being transplanted to us and the next generations. It's exciting to be a part of it!"
- "It's a new vision. But I learned that 1 for 50 allows our existing tried-and-tested resources to be incorporated!"
In one exercise, each person wrote down the names of resources, curriculum, training programs, videos, etc. that they each had to offer/share with others for each of the six elements of the 1 for 50 hand. The wall was filled with available resources! One of the attendees put it this way:
"It was amazing to realize that together as different ministries we have a lot of resources that we can use to help the child connect and stay connected to God as he grows spiritually. Alone we may not have enough but together we have it all. To succeed we must join hands."

Stories and Bits: "What's happening around the World?" CAMEROON: "I am just coming in from a test training in Central African Republic and it was a
joy because there was excitement. I got 24 participants from different denominations. The greatest task was passing on the vision because most of them speak Sango as their language and not French, so everything had to be interpreted. The training started on the second through fifth of December, 2010. I succeeding in casting the vision, teaching the leader's heart, understanding children and building relationships. Participants were willing to work it out for us to carry out more trainings in the future by letting others know and be involved. Africa must be won, so kids need to be reached now."
SOUTH INDIA: "A first training in South India went better than expected. There were 25
participants from three states. The core values (the 1 for 50 hand) presented a new concept, but it was exciting to see people get it. One of the leaders from India who had who had been at the GTS in Lebanon gave an excellent presentation. The training was for two days. It was not enough, but everyone felt they could go back and begin. They committed to staying in touch with others in their region for support and help as they implement the trainings. There is a realization that there is so much to learn, so much to do that's it's important to work together."
MONGOLIA: A training of trainers in the 1 for 50 concept led to these responses from trainees:

At a five-year strategic planning session for children's ministry for all of Mongolia, there was
a unity of purpose, crossing denominational and organizational lines. God is moving, and they are very intentional about including children's ministry in that movement. They're very excited about embracing the 1 for 50 vision.
UGANDA: "This past October I was in Namibia and also gathered staff from Zambia and Swaziland and we went through the entire 1 for 50 training manual; we also did Max7 and also covered our organization's materials. At the end of November I was in Sudan and we did the same thing.

Prayer and Praise:
- So many names, so many nations: In the past few months of global meetings and the "start" of 1 for 50, there has been an incredible response. Already, 16 national groups are active, sharing the vision, holding training events, and forming strategies and networks together. At least 50 more national groups are in the process of beginning, with early requests for information, vision, etc. Pray for everyone to get the information and the relationships they need at this crucial time of new beginnings!
- Continue to pray for strong unity, love, and cooperation, especially as people form new partnerships and networks. In many regions, there is a history of "work
ing on our own." - Praise God for the incredible release of resources, time, skill, talent, curriculum, etc. that we have already seen! Children's leaders from some of the poorest nations on the planet have shared funds with people in other unreached nations to help them start 1 for 50 events.
- Pray for children in unreached places: At least one-third of all children on the planet still live in regions where there is little to no access to the gospel. In these regions, more than 80% do not even know ONE PERSON who is a believer.
- Pray for local provision: Many organizations and individuals are beginning 1 for 50 training, vision-casting, and networks in their regions. There is no one organization funding 1 for 50, as every group and individual is funding their own participation. But we are praying for each other to get what we each need to do our part: travel funds, translation help, training expenses, etc.

- 1 FOR 50 CORE CURRICULUM NEEDS YOUR INPUT: The first 1 for 50 CORE training curriculum is already being used and translated. It's also a field test/pilot version, meaning WE NEED YOUR HELP. Please offer your suggestions, improvements, ideas, new activities, etc. and send them in so we can include them in the updated release next July. Check it out at 1for50.net.
- 1 FOR 50 DOCUMENTS IN KEY LANGUAGES: The basic vision and training overview documents have been translated into several key global languages: French, Spanish, Arabic. More are being worked on in India and other nations. Can you translate about 10 pages of documents into your language? Let us know and we'll get the latest edited versions to you so you can begin!

Trainer Tip: How Many is 2.2 billion? ("Esther's Dots")
One of the 1 for 50 leaders had been asking, "How many kids is 2.2 billion?" In thinking about how to share the magnitude of this number, she came up with this activity using a banner of o's (we call them dots). It is so powerful, the Children's Team used this as part of it's presentation at the Lausanne World Congress on Evangelism held in Cape Town South Africa in October. Here are instructions for sharing this great illustration with your group.

Instructions for preparing banner:
- Print all 15 pages of the file.
- Tape the sheets end to end to create a long banner.
- Roll up the banner and secure with a band prior to use.

Activity Instructions:
Display a map/globe of the world
2000 years ago, we were given a task: "Go and make disciples of all nations!" (Matthew 28:19-20) As children's leaders we focus on making disciples of all children. How big is that task?
The United Nations tell us that there are 2.2 billion children in the world. 2.2 billion is a huge number - just how big is it?
Display graphic dots each representing 100,000 children.
You might want to compare 100,000 to a town or area in your region. It is wonderful that we are already reaching children, but look at the need! 2.2 billion children! It is easy to be overwhelmed by 2.2 billion children but Jesus said, "Your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost." (Matthew 18:14) He is not overwhelmed by the numbers. Instead, he It challenges us to take the children of the world seriously - all of them.
Conclusion
The 1 for 50 vision is that EVERY child in EVERY community around the world would have someone who can help them know and follow Jesus for a lifetime. It is a God-sized vision for a God-sized task.
