Greetings!
When I was an advisor to students on a college campus -- just as the leaves were turning their brilliant colors the students would start to look drained and a cold or virus would be making its way through the student body. It was in the month of October when you could see that the students had changed -- and there was a palpable shift in focus from careless fun to buckling down.
I am joined in this month's issue of Successful College Parenting Newsletter by Shelley Howe, Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist and Life Coach. Shelley has over 30 years of experience providing meals, teaching, and counseling clients in their nutrition and weight management goals. Shelley's article is featured in the Communication Central section of and it is titled, "Worried About Your Student's Weight Gain? Tips to Support & Guide." While the article is written with the first-year student in mind, the advice that Shelley shares is valuable to parenting any college student who has experienced unwanted weight gain.
My October article is called, "In the Thick of It: Parenting Strategies for Mid-semester." The article offers 6 tips to support your student in the midst of mid-terms and throughout the semester as levels of stress typically rise.
