A Moment to Catch Our Breath and Give Thanks . . .

What a hallmark year it's been for the Alliance on Aging!  In August, we moved to our new office in Old Town Salinas.  This storefront location is a great compliment to our existing office at the Scholze Park Senior Center in Monterey.  But there is more!  Spirals, our beautiful new benefit/consignment store opened in Downtown Pacific Grove on September 24th.  It has been met with kudos from local merchants, residents and customers.

The move to Salinas will allow us to better serve seniors and their families in the Salinas Valley.  Our Spirals store will help to ensure financial sustainability for all of our programs throughout the county.  Careful planning and hard work plus the generous donation of time and dollars by so many have made this a reality.  Staff, volunteers, donors, funders, clients and now customers have been the key components to our success.  The list is long and our gratitude endless!

Even in the midst of a very busy & productive year, we must pause to say Thank YOU for your continued belief in the work the Alliance on Aging does and most important for your support of the seniors on your community.  May your holidays be blessed with all that is good!

Tax Volunteers Have a Flair for Numbers

With less than a month left in 2011, our Tax Counseling program is already gearing up for next year.  We're currently looking for volunteers to assist with the 2012 season.   Some tax knowledge is desirable but a full training will be provided.  For more info, please contact Sarah Guzman, TCE Program Coordinator.

WHAT? You Haven't Been to Spirals?

Come visit us!  Spirals is the uncommon consignment shop, where you can support the Alliance on Aging and earn some money at the same time.  We welcome new and gently used items in excellent condition, either donated or consigned.  If you donate, 100% of the sale proceeds benefit the Alliance on Aging.  If you consign, 50% of the proceeds go to you and the other 50% goes to the Alliance.  Either way, it's a win, win for you, the Alliance on Aging and for the customer who goes home with a new found treasure.

Stop by.  We're in the heart of Pacific Grove, under the bright blue awning!  For more information about donation, consignment, and volunteer opportunities, call 383-5030.

You Can Be The Voice of Seniors in Monterey County

As government funding continues to shrink, many services, including those for seniors, are at greater risk for additional cuts.  When the choices are made regarding future programs and services, elected officials at all levels of government will depend on both statistical data as well as feedback from the citizens they represent.

The Alliance on Aging Advocacy Committee is following this and other issues concerning seniors, and is assessing seniors' interest in attending future Supervisors meetings where senior services will appear on the agenda.  If you are interested in participating in an informational workshop on how you can participate please contact committee member Nancy Dolton at 649-1313.

 It's Easier Than You Think

The holidays are a great time to remember how fortunate we are and how easy it is to make a big impact on those who may not be.  This year we're very happy to say that both Alliance on Aging offices are drop off sites where you can leave canned goods, dry goods and non perishables that will be delivered to families in need.  Take a minute today to clean out that overstuffed pantry or next time you're at the market, grab a few extra cans of veggies and bring them by!

Annual Support Campaign Wrap Up

We're climbing the mountain and we're almost at the top!  We've raised $95,965 towards our $100,000 goal.  There are so many "Thank You's" that it is impossible to list them all here, but we would like to mention our Campaign Chair, Allan Marcus and his team for all their hard work and dedication to AoA.  Our campaign volunteers were amazing and we thank each and every one of you.  You make it all possible.

Read about our busy year serving seniors in our Holiday Letter and, if possible, please remember us in your year-end giving plans.

For questions and inquiries regarding donating please email our Development Director, Michelle Noseworthy
or you may call her at 831.655.4243.
