backtotopApril 2011

@aoa . . . e-news from the Alliance on Aging

April is National Volunteer Month

"To often we under-estimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, and honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."                                                                                                              Leo Buscaglia

The Alliance on Aging greatly appreciates the unselfish giving of its 200 volunteers and the spirit in which they give their time, talents and efforts to enhancing the lives of older adults in Monterey County.  Thank you for turning around lives and making a difference.

Greetings!

Remembering Mama

For many older women living in a nursing home or assisted living facility in Monterey County, Mother's Day can be an especially lonely occasion.  YOU can change that.  This coming Mother's Day, honor your mother or grandmother - or their memory - by helping Ombudsman deliver orchids to women living in long-term care who may not otherwise be acknowledged on this special day.

Exploring Life's REALLY Big Questions

The Alliance on Aging has partnered with the Sally Griffin Active Living Center to bring you a very special 4 week course about some of the topics that humans have contemplated since the dawn of time!

     WHAT? You still haven't filed your taxes?!

Only 10 days left until our E-Waste Fundraiser!

You already recycle your plastics, paper & glass, but did you know that electronic discards are one of the fastest growing segments of our nation's trash and that the worldwide total for e-waste alone could be 50 million TONS per year?

Alliance on Aging will host an E-Waste Recycling Fundraiser on April 16th.  You can do a great thing for the environment while you support the Alliance by bringing us your discarded televisions, computers/laptops, appliances (both small & large), radios, record players, telephones, answering machines and much more.  What better way to honor our planet during Earth Month?
