The Social Innovation Fund - Capacity Building Funding for Nonprofits
 
In support of Michelle Obama's commitment to increase volunteerism, President Barack Obama has requested $50 million to invest in promising nonprofit agencies. The Social Innovation Fund for FY 2010, part of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, will award multi-year capacity building subgrants to nonprofit community organizations around the country. Funding will be funneled through intermediary grantmaking institutions (foundations, government entities, etc.). Subgrants must be between 3 and 5 years in duration and must be at least $100,000. Organizations must match grants $1 for $1 in cash. Funding is contingent upon congressional approval of the FY 2010 budget. FY 2010 begins on October 1, 2009.
