Greetings!
Can you believe it is April? It seems like we just rang in the New Year! Maybe time has passed by so quickly because we have been busy little bees here at The Arc.
From working against more budget cuts to planning community events, the staff has been hard at work serving individuals with developmental disabilities. Check out the stories below to see what we have been up to and how you can help! |

Community Awards Banquet
Over 250 people gathered at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie to celebrate the 2010 Winners of The Arc's Community Awards.
The categories for the awards coincide with the core values of The Arc CCR, and are as follows: People First, Diversity, Community Participation, Visionary Leadership, Special Appreciation, with the highest award for Integrity and Excellence. Click here to read more about the categories and see a list of winners.
For the first time this year, four students were celebrated for their participation with individuals who have developmental disabilites in their class. Katrina Corkadel, Franklin Daily, Victoria Haxton & Maggie Reese from Central Elementary truly embody and demonstrate the very special human capacity for empathy. From the start of the school year they have made a remarkable effort to befriend and help students in Central's special education sites. This spirit of volunteerism had surfaced on the part of these young students and was not assigned to them. From escorting students to designated locations at dismissal, spending time with them at recess to demonstrating a mature sense of patience, these youngsters have become role models for their classmates.
Congratulations to them, and all of the award winners! |

Staff Spotlight - Brandi Coleman
Ms. Coleman has gone the extra mile when it comes to Doris, a woman who receives services from The Arc CCR. Upon
Doris and her family
 | hearing that she did not have family, Brandi went on the offensive. Through ancestry.com, Brandi researched Doris' family and found out her parents emigrated here from Russia. She did some more research and found out that Doris had siblings - and one even had a phone number listed! Doris has a brother and sister who are thrilled to have found her. Because of Brandi's compassion, love and value of family, many lives have been changed for the better.
Brandi was honored with the Integrity and Excellence Award at the recent Community Awards Banquet. Congratulations, Brandi! |

Planned Giving - Leave a Legacy
Did you know you can make a gift that will leave a lasting mark on your community?
Planned Giving is a set of ways a donor can leave money or assets to a nonprofit at her death; or a way to invest money so that the donor receives benefits during her life and then bequeaths the remaining funds to the nonprofit.
