Greetings!   Boy

We are happy to be looking to the future with so many exciting things going on the the world of developmental disabilities. Although some of the issues, such as the Alcohol Tax that you'll read about below, aren't likely to happen this year, they keep the issues and needs of the developmental disability community on the table.

Please remember that you can call, write or email your local legislator to tell them your opinion about disability issues.

Enjoy this issue and feel free to contact us with any questions, concerns or recommendations!
How Much Would You Pay?

Would you pay an extra ten cents for a glass of wine?

What if you knew that the ten cents would go directly to community members in need?

Montgomery County lawmakers say they will introduce legislation that would increase the tax on alcohol by ten cents with the projected $200 million in revenue split between the disabilities community, substance abuse tretment and prevention programs and other health related programs and services.

Unfortunately, the leadership in the House and Senate have made it clear that they will NOT support the increase. In addition, hospitality, alcohol and restaurant industries don't support the tax either.

In polls, over 80% of Marylanders support the tax increase. Please write, call or email your legislator to express your support!

  2. $2.2 million to provide six months of funding for 50 peole with emergency situations.

Want to Change A Life?

We are looking for volunteers to join our Quality Enhancement Committee. This committee has a direct, positive impact on the lives of the individuals and families that we serve.

The mission of the committee is to "facilitate improvement in all policies, procedures and practices effecting service provision by The Arc of the Central Chesapeake."

This committee discusses medicine reviews, incident reports, reviews behavioral plans and discusses any issues that may need to go to the full board for action.  We also visit some of The Arc's homes, with the permission of the residents, to ask them how satisfied they are with The Arc CCR's services and question them about any suggestions they may have for improvement of their environment or services.

Interested in learning more? Contact Angie DeMoreland at 410.990.1935 for ademoreland@thearcccr.org.
