| 11th Annual Golf Tournament |
Time to get out the clubs and spikes!
On May 13, 2009, The Arc is holding it's Annual Golf Challenge to support programs and services. Registration is 9:30 am and shotgun start is 11:00 am. $150/golfer or $600/foursome. Registration includes all cart and greens fees, lunch and dinner provided by Adam's Rib in Edgewater, beer, soda, water, sports drinks and one fabulous day!
This year's tournament will be very special. We will be celebrating the life of an amazing woman.
Linda Susan Suskie was a tremendous example of a giving woman with a huge heart. For 15 years, Linda nurtured and challenged the over 900 three to four-year-old students that passed through her classroom at Heritage Learning Center.
In 2007, Linda received her dream job as a teacher and advisor for the Anne Arundel County School System assigned to Community-Based Services working with special needs children.
Tragically, Linda died suddenly on September 20, 2008 in her home. Her husband, Bernie and their children, Anthony, 20, and Kevin, 18, have started a trust in Linda's name so that her legacy can continue.
The Linda S. Suskie Early Education Trust will provide scholarships for families of young children with special needs who are seeking community-based preschool services.
The golf tournament will raise funds for this important trust and other programs. Contact Angie for more information or download the registration form here.

We are forming a group consisting of parents, siblings, individuals with disabilities, medical professionals and anyone who would like to participate to serve as sounding boards or "Arc Ambassadors" for new parents or families. Those who have been through it know how hard it can be to first find out that your child has a disability, and then the overwhelming task of learning everything you need to in order to make sure she receives what she needs. | Annual Community Awards Banquet |
Thank you to all who attended The Arc CCR's Community Awards Banquet on March 24th. Many people from the community were honored for their contribution to those with developmental disabilities. With over 300 people in attendance, the celebration was incredible!
The Arc's most prestigious awards are for Integrity and Excellence and are awarded to a community member, Arc Direct Care employee and an Arc Administrative Staff member. This year's award winners are: Jamie Barbarich from Woodside Elementary School, Henrique Nyankale, and Sylvia Mundell. Congratulations!
Rick Hutzell, Editor and Allison Bourg, staff writer of The Maryland Gazette received the Media Award for effective, accurate and complete reporting on developmental disability issues. In the past year, the Gazette printed over 4 stories examining the waiting list, those who work with individuals with developmental disabilities, and political issues surrounding funding and budget cuts. These stories were then picked up by The Capital.

A BIG thank you to Villa Builders for sponsoring the Integrity and Excellence Awards! |
