| A Note From Wendy

|
Greetings!,
Welcome to another edition of On the Edge!
Wow, here we are in the final few weeks of 2009. What a year it has been for many people. I know for myself I have experienced more stretching personally, professionally, and spiritually than I ever thought possible. In just under a year I have transitioned my business into a consulting and coaching business exclusively catering to women entrepreneurs--and a few men, who are in need of guidance in blending their personal passions with their business desires. I am over the moon to see the enthusiasm Radiant Edge is greeted with. Every time I get the opportunity to speak about it, my mission to serve as a Radiant Business and Marketing Coach, and all the opportunities that I have in the works to excel people as 'passion-preneurs' in the year to come just confirms I am on the right path. I think there is something special about the year 2010 that is urging people to move into their next compelling level of play--much like myself. I truly believe there is this shift in business which has an almost "come follow me, let me show you another way" feeling. The work I keep encountering is more personal, incredibly fulfilling, and in part, infusing radiance into the personal well-being of my clients and the people they serve! In today's edition of On the Edge! I have written an article that explores this very topic titled: Can Business Be Part of Your Calling? I even included a few Radiant Action steps to help you move out onto your own Radiant Edge! A bit further down in my Marketing Tips you will find an example of one of my clients who I helped to reposition her business with her own personal mission to bring more pampering and luxury into the lives of women. Finally, if you live in the Vancouver lower mainland I am the guest speaker at the Valley Women's Network-Evening chapter next Tuesday. There is a link for more information if you can attend. I will be talking about using Twitter as a form of relationship marketing.
I would also like to welcome all my new readers of On the Edge! Until next time I wish you radiant success!

Can Business Be Part of Your Calling? by Wendy Burge
Either I am attracting really interesting clients, right now, or there is a real and notable shift in the business circles I am in. I keep encountering spiritually-minded, female, business entrepreneurs who are mission bound.
I am so excited sharing this, too! As I see it, it means that there are women finally stepping forward to their calling. They want more than ever to be "in service to people" as their form of work. They want to build a business that establishes a base for their mission. They want to support a specific niche of people they feel they are here to serve. However, as I am also discovering they are resistant to the idea of business growth strategies because they do not want to feel inauthentic in their delivery of their services. And this is keeping them playing small in their mission.
As I was coaching a new client around this idea-that building a spiritually conscious business was possible-it made me realize how many people could be building their business from the vantage point that they can't see the bridge which connects the gap between purpose fulfillment and business creation. Combining the words, spiritual and business, may sound abstract to many of you, but consider this quote by Neale Donald Walsch, author of Conversations with God:
"Business is your highest spiritual understanding, demonstrated."
The idea is that by finding work which feeds our souls in the pursuit of helping others can be transitioned into the creative act of business and commerce. Business allows us to be in service to others-just as many of us feel compelled to share in the healing and growth of this human experience. At the same time, business offers a viable component for us to increase our mission through the profit factor. Allowing us to play a larger role in reaching more people and having the ability to be philanthropic. Using business strategies to build a successful business doesn't negate the spiritual quest you may be compelled to fulfill through service. It actually opens the doors to a higher purpose as a term I have coined-- 'passion-preneur', because the true soul of your business is founded in your mission! How you consciously create the experience you wish to offer to people is what creates the brand or feeling you can convey through your business. Developing profit centres in your business to leverage your message of service, beyond only having a one-to-one experience, allows you to reach more people. However, to do this takes money! So, in essence, having a profitable business allows your soul-purpose to take fight to new heights you maybe have never thought of before. By reaching more than a few dozen people through your help, developing strategies that increase your profitability may mean you can now help a few thousand or hundreds of thousands of people instead. Thus, having a greater impact and role. What if Oprah never syndicated her talk show from the local Chicago TV market? Would she have been able to make the impact on the world as she has? Would she have had the ability to develop projects that continue to inspire and still be profitable? While these opportunities were not there initially, each time she steps up and pushes forth to continue to live out her mission, the more she attracts the right opportunities to help her grow bigger. And we all know as we can see it, the more money she makes, the more she continues to give back. Creating larger opportunities for her and those she impacts! I am not saying everyone will be another Oprah. But, by playing small and not stepping into a greater position to make your business growth as equally important to healing the world, you may be selling your self short in personally fulfilling your mission. Let alone the higher purpose you are here to really serve in life.
Radiant Actions to Take: Now, for just a moment take the time and write a few lines about the reasons 'why' you wanted to be in business for yourself. Are you currently fulfilling these points from where you are standing? Or, is it time to walk over that bridge and marry your mission with your business from this point on. What can you do next year to add more of your mission to your business or more business growth strategies to your mission? Feel free to share your insights with me by clicking here and emailing me.

Creating Websites with Functionality and Personality
Initially, websites were used as a form of marketing communication like a brochure or business card. They were made to convey basic information about a business, what it did, who it served, and how it could be contacted. As websites evolve and more people use them as their main form of communication to reach their ideal clients, there is a need to mix functionality with personality! From a marketing perspective, websites have a couple of important features that need to be emphasized: · Identification of targeted clients whom the business serves - be specific! People want to know if they are the right kind of client you serve, · Sign-up boxes which build your lists by establishing relationships though newsletters, ezines, and or product promotions, · Links to social network sites you're on where people can further interact with your business, · Personality which aligns with the brand of your business. Giving your website your unique personality that is aligned with the type of experience you want to offer -- make the online experience just as enjoyable as the live, in-person service. These features are especially important if your website has been created to represent a solo-professional or small business service business. Here is an example of a site I helped develop for a client recently. We identified her unique client market and created a personality for her business that matches her unique style. She can showcase her services, give prospects opportunities to learn more by signing up for special promotions which are sent by email, and display a brand that truly is unique to her. The website captures the true essence and passion of her services. www.clubmudurbanspa.com

Are You Ready to JUMP?
Marketing can be an often dreaded part of business especially when you are a solo-entrepreneur or small business owner. The last thing you want to do is figure out HOW TO TALK ABOUT YOURSELF, to find one more way to promote your business for another newspaper advertisement, expensive mail piece, and or any other multiple ways businesses typically market in hopes to draw in a few more new clients. Here is what I know...
Most people do not like to SELL THEMSELVES when it comes to their business. However, people who you were meant to help are spending their money with someone else who's helping them solve their problem because you haven't gotten clear about your marketing position. That is why it is essential for you to get clear about how to market your business quickly, effectively, and in a way that brings in a better return to your bottom line so you can have a greater impact on this world!
I am here to tell you, it's time to JUMP!
"It's time to take the leap to really DEFINE WHO YOU ARE and
understand HOW TO MARKET YOUR REAL VALUE in your business!"
So stop marketing like everyone else and JUMP WITH ME!

| Biz Building Resources
|
I have selected some really valuable business building tools every small business needs to know about!
There are many great web-based software programs on line to help assist businesses these days. These are a few I often share with clients and use my self.
1. Mozy.com - This is the best online data backup system! (It's a MUST to have a web-based backup system because you KNOW you won't do it manually yourself often enough! Plus best of all your information is always accessible at anytime online - just in case!)
2. 1ShoppingCart.com - The most used resource for online ecommerce, auto-responders, affiliate program, email marketing and more if you want to sell items for your business online--all of my colleagues and mentors use it--and me too soon!
3. ConstantContact.com - This is the email marketing program I use and you're reading right now. I recommend it if you don't have an email marketing system or shopping cart system that does this for you. It offers some great features like email archiving, survey options, and auto-responder options.
4. AudioGenerator.com - This is the easiest way to add audio to websites and emails! Set up your account, call in to activate the reording, and receive the audio formatted in html code for your website plus it gives you play buttons, etc. to put on your site. 5. PracticePaySolutions.com - This is a merchant services payment processing company most recommended by my colleagues; it works well with 1shoppingcart. 6. GoSolo.com - This is a great, inexpensive 800 phone system. I use this for my business and love that I can access my messages online. It sends me an email when someone leaves me a message. I then can log into my account to listen to it. Can't get any easier! It also offers fax, email, and web conference services as options to their packages.
7. Ning.com - This site allows you to create your own F*R*E*E social network! Do you have a select group of client programs, services, or a special interest you want to share about your business? You can create your own personal group for it and your members can talk to each other and share ideas.
8. InstantConference.com - This is a F*R*E*E conference line solution for teleclasses or recording calls of any sort. I use it and love that I can record my calls on my own private number with access code as well. Within three hours of the end of my call they email me links to my recording in an MP3 format!
11. Vistaprint.com - This is a digital web-based printing company. It offers tons of template options for business cards, brochures, postcards and more. They have SUPER promos - so make sure you get signed up on their email list. Make sure you click on your country's flag to get accurate pricing although.
12. Cafepress.com - This site is another digital printing site that allows you to set up your own online retail store. I use this site to create my own promotional items that I can purchase from myself at a great deal and or sell; like T-shirts, mugs, and tote bags all emblazoned with my logo.
