| A Note From Wendy
|
|
Greetings!,
Welcome to another edition of On the Edge!
It is hard to believe fall is well under way and we are getting close to the end of another year. The leaves are turning, the air has a chill, and the jackets are finally coming out of the closet. Another thing that fall reminds me of are the possiblities we have to take advantage of the time left in this year to
review how our businesses have been doing--as there is enough time to start in with creating growth strategies for next year. You may be saying to your self "Oh please, Wendy, let's not talk about that! I am still working on this quarter." Maybe so, however, what if you really want to take your business to another level of success, profitability, and influence? How are you going to do this? It takes a bit of time to step out of your daily activities to really explore how big 'BIG' really is for you. More importantly is answering the question why you really want to. Beyond generating cash-flow there has to be another reason you are doing what you do. Getting clear about your WHY is a great way to capitalize on building your brand. Mission based marketing has really come into its own and really there is no reason more business don't do it. When you are a small business this is actually easier than you may think to initiate. Putting the passion behind why you are in business comes across much more personable and relatable than larger recognized businesses. It does require a bit of transparency and courage to do this kind of marketing--let it be known. In this week's article called: The Greatest Marketing Message Is Inside of You! I offer a simple strategy to begin a shift to this more authentic approach for marketing and to build better customer relationships. If you want to expolre how to adopt this form of marketing into your business won't you join me for a VERY SPECIAL coaching opportunity with a venture I have created between Radiant Edge Consulting and the founders of Kwik Focus- a small business focus group exclusively for owners. We held one in July and had excellent feedback about the value of this kind of exclusive opportunity so we are doing it again in October. Get feedback about issues, topics, questions, and queries related to your businesses from "peer" entrepreneurs within a short, directed period of time. Radiant Edge Consulting is hosting this small business focus group, open to all small business owners, on October 19, Monday at 12:00 -2:00 PM in White Rock. There are a few spots left! The Greatest Marketing Message Is Inside of You! by Wendy Burge
Many small business owners grapple with the idea of marketing because it can cost bucket loads of money to create a campaign that may cast a wide net to gather leads, but may only bring in a 2% return overall for the effort. As well, there is no guarantee the prospect is a qualified "would be" client initially so a weeding-out process must be in place to find the serious clients. All of this can feel like a lot of work for a little return on a big investment!
However, with a little bit of reframing marketing does not have to be a painful process of elimination just to find a few good clients. It can be mastered by adding more passion and ease if you understand a few significant points that fly in the face of what many think marketing is about. Follow these simple strategies to give your marketing an instant make-over to attract ideal clients while building better relationships.
First, identify who it is specifically you can help and how you can help them. Convey the 'pain' of a problem they may be facing by starting to build upon how your business can solve the issues for which they are experiencing.
Every business is able to help solve a problem for someone-- a specific type of person. Clarifying exactly what that problem is helps you identify who those people are that you can help immediately.
Second, position how you can help them through client success stories, testimonials, or by offering a 'before and after' scenario that gives a transformational experience because of your services or products. Most people make the mistake of selling their 'deliverables' not the solution to the problem people may be experiencing.
People are always in search of finding ways to improve situations in their lives and rely less on how the transformation is delivered. Trying to promote a service, seminar or book is just the vehicle in the means of how this information is offered. It is within the 'before and after' experience you create that is being sought after. Get clear about how you can take their 'pain' away.
Third, take this further by stating WHY it is that you actually care about helping this particular group of people. What significant event or life experience brought you to this place of even wanting to do the work you are doing. You see, it is within YOUR STORY that you can leap frog ahead of your competition. People will champion someone who used a personal experience as a catalyst for them to step out and make a difference in the lives of others. Especially if they can demonstrate a solution so people don't have to experience the same 'pain'.
"Why you do, what you do holds more value for people, than just what you do and how you do it."
The benefit of this marketing strategy provides clear and direct messages about who you help, and why it is important to you. Your personal passion for creating a service or product that helps move people forward in their lives with ease is a greatest marketing message you have. More importantly, it positions you in a new light from all the rest of the competition out there because there is nobody else like you then! © 2009 Wendy Burge - Radiant Edge Consulting.

| Marketing Quick Tip
|
Create services and products your clients really want.
It is hard to be innovative all the time when it comes to creating new programs, services, and products your customers will want to buy and use. Large businesses with big budgets will spend up to two years doing development and market research to get it right before they decide to launch anything new to their consumer base.
But, what if, you are a small business on a small budget. How do you stay innovative and cutting-edge if you are cash-strapped and time is of the essence?
Try asking your customers what they want! Using a survey will help you garnish incredible information regarding what people want and are willing to pay for. They will also tell you new ways you can help them by stating what it is they are not currently getting from your business as it stands.
Surveying clients can also save small businesses tons of time, money, and energy in creating something that really held no value for clients in the first place.
Learning more about what your customers value and want provides a clear and focused path to service and product creation that will not only be successfully received but profitable as well. |

| Biz Building Resources
|
I have selected some really valuable business building tools every small business needs to know about!
There are many great web based software programs on line to help assist businesses these days. These are a few I often share with clients and use my self.
1. Mozy.com - This is the best online data backup system! (It's a MUST to have a web-based backup system because you KNOW you won't do it manually yourself often enough! Plus best of all your information is always accessible at anytime online - just in case!)
2. 1ShoppingCart.com - The most used resource for online ecommerce, auto-responders, affiliate program, email marketing and more if you want to sell items for your business online--all of my colleagues and mentors use it--and me too soon!
3. ConstantContact.com - This is the email marketing program I use and you're reading right now. I recommend it if you don't have an email marketing system or shopping cart system that does this for you. It offers some great features like email archiving, survey options, and auto-responder options.
4. AudioGenerator.com - This is the easiest way to add audio to websites and emails! Set up your account, call in to activate the reording, and receive the audio formatted in html code for your website plus it gives you play buttons, etc. to put on your site. 5. PracticePaySolutions.com - This is a merchant services payment processing company most recommended by my colleagues; it works well with 1shoppingcart. 6. GoSolo.com - This is a great, inexpensive 800 phone system. I use this for my business and love that I can access my messages online. It sends me an email when someone leaves me a message. I then can log into my account to listen to it. Can't get any easier! It also offers fax, email, and web conference services as options to their packages.
7. Ning.com - This site allows you to create your own F*R*E*E social network! Do you have a select group of client programs, services, or a special interest you want to share about your business? You can create your own personal group for it and your members can talk to each other and share ideas.
8. InstantConference.com - This is a F*R*E*E conference line solution for teleclasses or recording calls of any sort. I use it and love that I can record my calls on my own private number with access code as well. Within three hours of the end of my call they email me links to my recording in an MP3 format!
11. Vistaprint.com - This is a digital web-based printing company. It offers tons of template options for business cards, brochures, postcards and more. They have SUPER promos - so make sure you get signed up on their email list. Make sure you click on your country's flag to get accurate pricing although.
12. Cafepress.com - This site is another digital printing site that allows you to set up your own online retail store. I use this site to create my own promotional items that I can purchase from myself at a great deal and or sell; like T-shirts, mugs, and tote bags all emblazoned with my logo.
