A Note From Wendy 
 

Greetings! ,

We are quickly sliding into the final days of summer with more structured days on their way--especially in my house with school starting soon. This time of summer holds a special meaning for me for another important reason.

My life dramatically changed eight years ago when I had my youngest son, Ethan (that is him below sitting at my desk). After he was born, we soon discovered he had a condition called Achondroplasia; also known as dwarfism. This is a genetic anomaly that is a dormant, recessive gene, however, under the right conditions--what ever they may be--two normal stature people can have a dwarf child.  As we have learned a majority of dwarf children are born to normal stature parents. 

EthanOnce the initial shock wore off that my son was a "little person", I knew the best thing I could give Ethan was a great sense of personal self esteem. I realized that unlike most parents who tell their children to be all they could be, I could not flippantly state this to my son because life had not handed him an even footing as most.

Now, you may be wondering what this has to do with my business. Well, let me tell you, one day I hit a wall. 

I spent the first few years reinforcing to Ethan that in spite of the fact that the world saw him differently he did not need to limit his potential. Unfortuantely, I was not walking my talk as I cringed during these conversations because I was not living out mine. I was having a hard time believing in myself.

I struggled with telling my child to be his greatest self, while having him watch his mother flounder within her own self-esteem, value, and possibilies. What bothered me the most was that I had nothing significantly noticable holding me back.

Then a few years ago, early one August morning at 4:17 a.m., it was as if the Universe woke me up to give me a message: in order to show Ethan he could have a big presence in this world (regardless of his size) I had to claim my own potential and play my big part in life too. That thought awakened me! (In more ways than the obvious.)

How this was to be accomplished I did not understand at the time, but it was at that moment that I choose to not live in mediocrity any more.

I made it my intention to bring more of myself into my work and do what I love. So now, I have consciously married my love for small business marketing, personal development, and supporting the potential of others by using my writing, speaking, and coaching skills to do this.

In the end, this will show my son, Ethan, that he could be his greatest self just like his mommy could. So, I stepped out and have never looked back. I will admit the road signs have not been clearly marked, however, every step has been an incredible passage to this journey as a work-at-home mom.

So, in this week's edition I share with you my Top 10 Reasons to Be Yourself for a Living. I hope you find this inspirational and how being more of yourself in your business will truly make your life more radiant!

When people consider going into business for themselves, they typically site the usual reasons for having chosen this path of being an entrepreneur. Often, it is to escape a job, boss, or an undesirable lifestyle of work and more work with few personal rewards.
 
However, I propose another set of points why being an entrepreneur is a desirable calling-especially when you can fully engage in being yourself in the process. Here are ten reasons to be your self for a living:
 
10. Days should not be spent on anything less
Living less than your potential is merely a poor use of the time you have on this planet.

9. We are all already being ourselves
Regardless whether we are initially working for others; we are already being ourselves to some degree for a living.  However, by shifting our intention, we can set the tone to unleash our potential within an environment which better supports us.

8. People need you to
We are all blessed with unique gifts intended to help this world.  So in order to experience a purpose-filled life we are to be expressing our gifts in service to others.

7. It is freedom
Releasing the mimes, beliefs, and internal critics holding you hostage, allows you to experience the true joys of life by freely being yourself.

6.  It is the most radiant way to live
Consciously creating the way in which you wish to live increases your energy.  This is radiated through your being and is most attractive to others who wish to experience you completely.

5. It is the new economy
When we align our purpose with organized business strategy, we are able to market to the right audience and to share our message about our services and passions. This in turn successfully creates a radiant business.

4. You're being called
The signs in your life are calling you to step out and claim your "expertise role" by fuelling the passion to move in that direction.

3. You want to
You are ready and  willing to do what it takes to live on purpose, with passion, and be in service by the new rules you create for your life.

2. You no longer need reasons
It becomes less about needing to claim your potential and more about the self perseveration of expressing it-so much so, that there is no other way you wish to live!

Resources I have selected some really valuable business building tools every small business needs to know about!
 
There are many great web based software programs on line to help assist businesses these days. These are a few I often share with clients and use my self.

1. Mozy.com - This is the best online data backup system! (It's a MUST to have a web-based backup system because you KNOW you won't do it manually yourself often enough! Plus best of all your information is always accessible at anytime online - just in case!)
2. 1ShoppingCart.com - The most used resource for online ecommerce, auto-responders, affiliate program, email marketing and more if you want to sell items for your business online--all of my colleagues and mentors use it--and me too soon!
3. ConstantContact.com - This is the email marketing program I use and you're reading right now. I recommend it if you don't have an email marketing system or shopping cart system that does this for you. It offers some great features like email archiving, survey options, and auto-responder options. 
4. AudioGenerator.com - This is the easiest way to add audio to websites and emails! Set up your account, call in to activate the reording, and receive the audio formatted in html code for your website plus it gives you play buttons, etc. to put on your site.
5. PracticePaySolutions.com - This is a merchant services payment processing company most recommended by my colleagues; it works well with 1shoppingcart.
6. GoSolo.com - This is a great, inexpensive 800 phone system. I use this for my business and love that I can access my messages online. It sends me an email when someone leaves me a message. I then can log into my account to listen to it. Can't get any easier! It also offers fax, email, and web conference services as options to their packages.
7. Ning.com - This site allows you to create your own F*R*E*E social network! Do you have a select group of client programs, services, or a special interest you want to share about your business? You can create your own personal group for it and your members can talk to each other and share ideas.
8. InstantConference.com - This is a F*R*E*E conference line solution for teleclasses or recording calls of any sort. I use it and love that I can record my calls on my own private number with access code as well. Within three hours of the end of my call they email me links to my recording in an MP3 format!
9. Dreamstime.com - Is an inexpensive photo and art site where you can get images for your website or ezines. They offer a really good selection too.
10. Wordpress.com - Have you wanted to start your own blog? This is the site to do it in. Wordpress is easy to start up, they have several template styles, and it is user-friendly. I use it for both my Radiant Edge blog and Radiant Business Marketing Articles blog.
11. Vistaprint.com - This is a digital web-based printing company. It offers tons of template options for business cards, brochures, postcards and more. They have SUPER promos - so make sure you get signed up on their email list. Make sure you click on your country's flag to get accurate pricing although.
12. Cafepress.com - This site is another digital printing site that allows you to set up your own online retail store. I use this site to create my own promotional items that I can purchase from myself at a great deal and or sell; like T-shirts, mugs, and tote bags all emblazoned with my logo.
