| A Note From Wendy |
|
Greetings! ,
I am glad to be back in your inbox this week with my latest edition of On the Edge!
This new writing schedule has me feeling a bit lost not sending out my ezine to you weekly however, it has helped me to get rolling on a few new projects I have been wanting to start this summer. I hope everyone has settled into their new summer schedules. I know for myself I am slipping back into my routine as I was away for a week on holidays with my family. Thinking we had rented a condo with Internet I quickly discovered that I had not. I was without my web based business systems and my emails for a week. I had to shut down, turn off, and be presen--remembering how life was like without all this accessibility. And you know what, it was great! My best friend Karen joined our family for a few days and she and I had some great girlfriend time--driving those winding roads along Okanagan Lake in hunt of wineries. Here is a picture of us at Blasted Church winery just outside of Penticton, BC. The wine industry has made a huge contribution to this region and as a result offers some great lessons about business and marketing. Who would have thought that Canada could have award winning wineries! The lesson here is that where you have a dream, determination and persistence can make it come true. What I love the best about the wineries is how they all offer tastings. Great customer service add-on for sure!
It never ceases to amaze me that just by offering people a sample of a product (or service) you can genuinely invite them into the selling and buying experience without using a HARD SELL tactic. When I was at Blasted Church winery I witnessed this first hand with a "try before you buy" offer that leveraged not just one bottle of wine but a CASE to a visitor who instantly loved the wine they had just tried. In previous articles, I have talked about this kind of marketing called "pink spoon"--based on the success Baskin Robin Ice Cream stores have had over the years with the "try before you buy" offer. However, that particular experience reminded how businesses that cater to their customer experience easily and almost effortless can be profitable along with being remarkable! With that being said, being remarkable is in evidently what most businesses want and in today's issue I share the 3 Hot Ways to Communicate with Your Customers Online! Each can easily make you remarkable. You won't want to miss this. As technology advances it is making it easier and easier for us to communicate with our customers without it being overly complicated or time consuming.
Before you start in on reading this week's article I am really excited to announce I have a special event happening at the end of July I would love to have you attend. I have teamed up with Kwik Focus, a focus group that provides small businesses the opportunity to get feedback about issues, topics, questions, and queries related to their businesses from "peer" entrepreneurs within a short, directed period of time. Jointly we are offering my readers, clients, and small business owners within my community the opportunity to connect in a way they rarely can. Radiant Edge Consulting is hosting this small business focus group, open to all small business owners, on July 27th Monday at 12:00 PM in White Rock. Look below for more details. Also seats are limited so please if this event "speaks to you" then reserve a seat today as it is sure to fill up quickly. I am keeping this group small and intimate so people can really get the desired attention their business may need as the Kwik Focus facilitators, me, and the other business owners will then have the opportunity to give each attendant great feedback. Until next time I wish you radiant success! |
Radiantly Yours,
 Wendy Burge

3 Hot Ways to Communicate with Your Customers Online! by Wendy Burge It used to be that having a website URL address was the way to show you were hip to the new online movement by having a web presence for your business. However, things are changing rapidly and with the help of newly emerging, user-friendly technology, it is much easier to establish more ways to build good customer relationships. The Internet can offer more than a place to host your website for your business. It can also give you more powerful and creative ways to engage and communicate with your customers. Here are the top 3 hot ways to infuse online communication into your marketing toolbox.
Blog - Be Read Web logs otherwise known as Blogs are a journal type website. Their structure is quite different however from traditional websites. Blogs allow people to post their ideas, thoughts, expertise, and commentaries on an open site which they can set up through one of the many free, blog hosting sites where people around the globe can read it. Blogs are web-based journals written by anyone and everyone with an opinion to share.
People who write blogs are known as Bloggers. Blogs are often written by only one person and are usually intended to share a point of view about a particular subject. Unlike an on-line magazine or other forms of journalistic commentary, blogs allow the everyday person to take a position in it-globally! Newbie bloggers be warned, do not post ideas that aren't your own because active blog readers will let you know they caught you. Just remember that when deciding to create a blog, authenticity is key. Also, not everything you read should be believed. Bloggers are not journalists, but people openly offering unsolicited opinions, much like people standing on a street corner sharing their ideas and latest experiences. It is up to you to stop, listen, and believe or not believe their credibility. Blogs are finding their way into the business world by means of bloggers who post opinions about businesses, products, and services. This can be a good thing as their posting act like testimonies and can be used to actively drive traffic, the prospective customers, to a business. On the flip side, a small business owner who blogs can easily create an expert position by posting about their business ideas, intentions, and desires in a way that positions them with a transparency for viewers to read and learn more about them. Likewise, as a blogger, yourself, you can post feedback on other people's blogs that are relative to your industry and or target market of customers as a means of positioning your expertise.
Readers can post commentaries, when allowed, and interact within the co-creation of their experiences with your business by offering their feedback. Blogs can easily allow for customers, prospects, and the world, in general, to discover more about your business in a less "salesie" way.
Podcast - Be Heard Broadcasts of audio that are downloaded to listening devices like an iPod, the most common, are called Podcasts. Podcasts are sound bites of audio content that are broadcasted to people through a subscription service. People can receive regular updates of audio created by the host person or podcaster. Podcasters can create unique "talk-radio" content on any subject with which they have experience-- lasting anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour-long show.
Like having your own radio station, podcasts allow a person to create "radio shows" that people can listen to at their own convenience by downloading show segments to their computer or other listening devices like an iPod or MP3 player. With a few pieces of equipment; a computer, a mic (microphone), and the Internet, anyone can create a podcast. These small sound bites of audio, or podcast shows, are then uploaded on to iTunes. (That's right--you do not need to be a band, book or movie to get on iTunes.) People can then subscribe to your podcast show. New podcast segments are finally uploaded to the hosting distribution site and are sent to subscribers who can download the podcast to their preferred listening devices. Podcast are equivalent to blogs, in the same way that they are open to anybody who wants to talk about a topic of choice. Small business owners can easily convey their expertise by broadcasting their knowledge through their own podcast shows. This is a great way for small business owners to update and offer timely topics of interest to their followers. Podcasts are great for people who prefer talking over writing; however, some planning and prep work should be done before hitting the mic. Spontaneity can be okay, but, tightening up on a topic with a scripted show outline allows for clearer content to be communicated. URL links to your shows are generated and can be posted on your website, blog, Twitter, Facebook, and within email marketing pieces to your customers.
Podcasts are great "calling cards" in positioning your expertise. Once podcasters are up and running and their shows are getting exposure, it is common to be asked to be interviewed as a guest expert on other podcast shows related to your industry. You can not find better PR than that!
Video - Be Seen Web video is probably better noted through sites like YouTube. However, it is slowly making its way as a new, hot online marketing strategy. As advancing technology makes it easier to create video clips and upload them to sites like YouTube, video allows people to capture content with relative ease for others to see and for the videographer to be seen. While we have all seen the stupid-person antics caught on video and posted on YouTube, video as a communication media is catching on with other people besides the amateur, candid-camera enthusiasts. Again, with just a few pieces of equipment-- a computer, a video camera, and the Internet, anyone can create simple video clips to convey their messages. The business world is starting to catch on that this simple tool is great for delivering personalized messages about updates, product enhancements, and promotional offers. Some organizations are going as far as creating a themed series of video clips, often humorous in nature, in hopes that these small mini-videos go viral, and will be sent by viewers to each other around the global-net to see. They are often relatively inexpensive to make and offer a flexible way to create non-written content on a weekly basis to share with consumers. You do not need to be a large corporation to take advantage of this new communication tool, either. Because of the reasonable cost, mostly in equipment, it is easy for a small business owner to start creating video clips about a topic specific to their industry. By posting it to a YouTube account, they can offer links to customers through a very personal and interactive media that goes beyond the written word or voice-only recording. This is great for businesses and organizations which naturally don't lend well to the other formats above. Because it is so easy to create, it is used for product demonstration, speeches, and sales training. Video is also popping up as an add-on to blogs as it is easy to create and upload along with a posting-of-commentary about the topic covered for the viewers to also read. It conveys more personality than just the written word alone. This is called Vlogging, short for video blogging. And like a podcast, video content can be added to iTunes and this is called Vodcasting. Again the idea is that each video is created, uploaded, and sent to subscribers who download it to watch at a more convenient time. As you can see above, the numerous words bolded constitute a whole new vocabulary developing to explain this wonderful, marketing phenomenon which we are finding and creating online. Become familiar with them and their meanings because your customers and clients are learning them, too.

Marketing can be an often dreaded part of business especially when you are a solo-entrepreneur or small business owner. The last thing you want to do is figure out HOW TO TALK ABOUT YOURSELF, to find one more way to promote your business for another newspaper advertisement, expensive mail piece, and or any other multiple ways businesses typically market in hopes to draw in a few more new clients.
Here is what I know...
Most people do not like to SELL THEMSELVES when it comes to their business. However, people who you were meant to help are spending their money with someone else who's helping them solve their problem because you haven't gotten clear about your marketing position. That is why it is essential for you to get clear about how to market your business quickly, effectively, and in a way that brings in a better return to your bottom line so you can have a greater impact on this world!
I am here to tell you, it's time to JUMP!
"It's time to take the leap ...
to really DEFINE WHO YOU ARE and
understand HOW TO MARKET
YOUR REAL VALUE in your business!"
So stop marketing like everyone else and JUMP WITH ME!
I will teach you how to position your business for those people who need you right now! Learn how I can work with you to develop a marketing blueprint for your business.

| Biz Building Resources |
I have selected some really valuable business building tools every small business needs to know about!
There are many great web based software programs on line to help assist businesses these days. These are a few I often share with clients and use my self.
1. Mozy.com - This is the best online data backup system! (It's a MUST to have a web-based backup system because you KNOW you won't do it manually yourself often enough! Plus best of all your information is always accessible at anytime online - just in case!)
2. 1ShoppingCart.com - The most used resource for online ecommerce, auto-responders, affiliate program, email marketing and more if you want to sell items for your business online--all of my colleagues and mentors use it--and me too soon!
3. ConstantContact.com - This is the email marketing program I use and you're reading right now. I recommend it if you don't have an email marketing system or shopping cart system that does this for you. It offers some great features like email archiving, survey options, and auto-responder options.
4. AudioGenerator.com - This is the easiest way to add audio to websites and emails! Set up your account, call in to activate the reording, and receive the audio formatted in html code for your website plus it gives you play buttons, etc. to put on your site. 5. PracticePaySolutions.com - This is a merchant services payment processing company most recommended by my colleagues; it works well with 1shoppingcart. 6. GoSolo.com - This is a great, inexpensive 800 phone system. I use this for my business and love that I can access my messages online. It sends me an email when someone leaves me a message. I then can log into my account to listen to it. Can't get any easier! It also offers fax, email, and web conference services as options to their packages.
7. Ning.com - This site allows you to create your own F*R*E*E social network! Do you have a select group of client programs, services, or a special interest you want to share about your business? You can create your own personal group for it and your members can talk to each other and share ideas.
8. InstantConference.com - This is a F*R*E*E conference line solution for teleclasses or recording calls of any sort. I use it and love that I can record my calls on my own private number with access code as well. Within three hours of the end of my call they email me links to my recording in an MP3 format!
11. Vistaprint.com - This is a digital web-based printing company. It offers tons of template options for business cards, brochures, postcards and more. They have SUPER promos - so make sure you get signed up on their email list. Make sure you click on your country's flag to get accurate pricing although.
12. Cafepress.com - This site is another digital printing site that allows you to set up your own online retail store. I use this site to create my own promotional items that I can purchase from myself at a great deal and or sell; like T-shirts, mugs, and tote bags all emblazoned with my logo.
