| A Note From Wendy |
|
Greetings!,
Happy Wednesday!
I first want to put forth my gratitude for all the great feed back I am receiving from people about my ezine. I have been to many networking events lately and am delighted by the comments of support from my readers, some of which I had only just met. It was my intention to offer a much-needed, new view point towards business and marketing topics with the perspective that business can be a form of personal, as well, professional development.
There has been such a shift in our own personal awareness for fulfilled lives that it is not surprising to see so many people go into business for themselves. And this is what I am finding as I talk with people. The desire to create or make a business that allows them this freedom and at the same time does not feel like another job. I have also heard their challenges within the start-up phase of their business, the need for more leverage about structure and support, and a "biggie" how to determine fees and pricing.
You may be thinking how are these topics related to marketing, Wendy? Well, simply put, as a relationship marketing specialist (and from my days as a coach and therapist) I know of no other relationship better to develop than that of the one we have with ourselves.
How you view yourself and believe in your own abilities greatly impacts the impression people take away when they met you. And as a small business entrepreneur you are creating a business where YOU (and all you present) are what people are buying just as much as the services you offer. There is nothing more attractive than the natural confidence of a person who knows they are on purpose in their life. So it is my intention to help shift your awareness about marketing from being a dialogue you have "out there" with people to get them to buy from you to one you have with yourself and how you wish to serve people through your passions, natural talents, and giftsthrough the structure of a business. Clarity around this anchors the message you want to share with the world and it makes for more radiant marketing.
So over the next few weeks I have developed a series of articles that will focus on this idea in order to help start your internal dialogues about what you really want your business to look like, as well, how to structure your marketing so it supports your efforts.
Here is to your radiant success!

Stepping off the Edge- Reaffirming Questions to Ask as a Newbie Entrepreneur by Wendy Burge The decision to become an entrepreneur is not to be taken lightly. However, the rewards of working for one's self and having control over career and financial growth can be enticing, exciting, and truth be told, a bit scary. When the desire to go into business for one's self is greater than staying in a current job situation and the courage bubbling up inside is pressing forth to step out onto the entrepreneurial edge, then there are a few questions to ask which will reaffirm whether the actions are aligned with the desire to take this on. As with most things in life, a little bit of reflection, research, and planning can make all the difference when it comes to the success of any venture of this magnitude. So grab a pen and paper and start to answer these very important questions. Why are you in business to begin with? As an entrepreneur you have to create a big enough WHY in your desire to pull you through your days. Is it the freedom to have more time personally or with your family? Maybe, it's to have more control over your future prospects and finances? What about the flexibility it could afford you for traveling and working however you'd like? What makes you dream, captures your attention, and make you strive for this greater goal? Look at the passions you have in life and understand, now, that your business will fund your lifestyle. Clarity around this point will be the driver of your entrepreneurial lifestyle business.
What do you want your life to look like? The whole point of an entrepreneurial business model is to stake claim in taking back your life from the external demands that have been imposed on you from corporate structures and or from being an employee. Understanding what you want your life to look like will help you to determine how you want to work now. What activities and tasks do you enjoy about your new business the most? How long do you want to work each day? Do you want time off during the year? Do you have young children? If so, do you want to work a schedule around their school days and school year? Do you want a business that is "built to go"-so it is essentially virtual and allows you to travel or do you want a traditional brick and mortar office that allows you to have a presence in your community? Clarity about this point is essential as many people start the entrepreneurial track and build a business that consumes their life just as much as the career they just left. Then they wonder why they created a business that does not support the lifestyle they dreamed of when they started their business in the first place. How do you like to work with people? This really is an important question to ask. Do you prefer being more of a leader, advisor, or consultant? Are you a great sales person, marketing maverick, or networker? Or do you prefer to be behind the scenes as a support person, technician, or aid? Do you like the intimacy of working with clients as a healer, coach, or teacher? You must align your preferences with your personality. If you are really a people person but you create a business that essentially keeps you as a technician or aid in supporting people, you will quickly dislike the business you have created because it does not allow you to fully exress yourself. Understanding more about who you are is just as essential as to how you want to work. Stepping back and looking clearly at the foundation of your new business this way will serve as strong footings in creating a business that is in alignment with you as a person as well as an entrepreneur.
Next week, I will share the final questions in this first step--that are important to the process of stepping off the edge as a newbie entrepreneur.
