Kerry Peck Participates in American Geriatric Society Mock Trial |
On April 30th Kerry Peck played the role of defense counsel in the American Geriatric Society's mock trial, " You be the Jury: A Mock Trial to Determine Whether an Older Adult Died From Neglect," as part of their 2009 Annual Scientific Meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago. During the trial, 100 doctors and health care professionals were to determine whether a daughter was guilty of elder abuse, neglect and manslaughter of her elderly mother. Hypothetical medical records were created and Dr. Martin Gorbien, chairman of geriatrics and palliative care at Rush University Medical Center was asked to be the expert witness. The trial helped doctors in the older adult world understand the legal system in conjunction with elder abuse.
