Chicago House, of which partner Ray Koenig is a member of the Board of Trustees, serves families and individuals who never had homes, jobs, or the support of their families, even before being diagnosed with AIDS. While new treatments allow people with HIV to live longer and healthier lives, Chicago House still relies upon the compassion and concern of the community to bring stability and hope to the people it serves. For more than two decades, it has been fighting for Chicagoans who are marginalized by HIV and AIDS.

Elder Justice Act Reintroduced to Lawmakers |
|
The Elder Justice Act is being revisted by legislators after it's original introduction in 2006. Seantor Orrin Hatch of Utah reintroduced the Act stating "more than 500,000 Americans over 60 are the victims of domestic abuse. That is why our senior citizens cannot wait any longer for this legislation to pass." The Elder Justice Act is the first comprehensive federal effort to address and prevent elder abuse, neglect and exploitation. The Elder Justice Act will increase prosecution of those who mistreat the elderly and require prompt reporting of crimes by nursing homes. The Act will also improve research related to elder abuse, create new expertise, create a direct funding stream for Adult Protective Services and authorize grants to support long-term care training and programs to improve management practices.
