Green Energy.  Renewable Reources.  Two big topics that continue to fill news headlines.  What do they mean for you and the future of your business?  CBI and VHCC would like to help answer those questions.  Please join us July 9, for the first of several opportunities to learn more about the growing field of Green Energy and Green Jobs.
Introduction to Renewable Energy & Green Jobs  
Please join Virginia Highlands Community College and the Center for Business & Industry  on July 9, 2009, for a presentation by American Electric Power (AEP)  Engineer, Claudia Banner, as she introduces the concepts of renewable energy, and discusses the potential for employment in the new and expanding, green industry.   
 
Together we will explore:

�         Renewables
�         Sustainability
�         Transmission/Distribution/Gridsmart
�         Job futures
 
Claudia Banner is a principal engineer in new energy development with AEP where she has worked in generation, environmental compliance, mergers and acquisitions and project development.  Currently, she works with renewable energy development, generation cost and technology evaluations for long-term planning and on special projects such as power plant evaluations, new nuclear unit study and biodiversity policy development.

Sign up Now for Industrial Safety 
 
Virginia Highlands Community College has partnered with the Smyth County Career and Technology Center to provide an Industrial Maintenance program that combines courses needed for jobs in the region's manufacturing industries.
           
The first course, Industrial Safety, is a hybrid class that will begin with a mandatory class session from 6-8:30 p.m. on Monday, June 15, from 6- 8:30 p.m. at the Smyth County facility.  The hybrid feature includes some face-to-face classroom meetings with the instructor and some work completed at home or online via Blackboard. The class will end on August 6.
           
The cost for a two-credit class for Virginia residents is $174.30.  To register, please call CBI at 739-2430.
