PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE It is very hard to believe that 2011 and the opportunity that was given to me to lead PCMA Greater New York is coming to a close. It has been a privilege to learn and grow serving as a volunteer for the PCMA Greater New York Area Community. I am proud of what we were all able to experience and accomplish in 2011, and look forward to being involved as Immediate Past President in 2012. I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the board members and volunteers in organization that gave their time to PCMA in 2011. Some of the greatest industry friendships and learning experiences of my career were forged as a result of my association with such a fine group of people in our chapter over the past three years. It was an honor to get to know so many of you well. I am looking forward to passing the baton to Rocco "Rocky" LaForgia, your 2012 President. For everyone who knows him, it's not surprising that he is off to a running start. With the help of other chapter volunteers 2012 already has a great line up of programs and other enhancements that I believe will be a hit in 2012! Look for a save the date soon listing tentative dates for all 2012 programs. Best wishes to every member of organization for a wonderful holiday season and successful 2012! With Sincere Gratitude To My PCMA New York Area Family, Amanda Ciarlone President, NYPCMA Director of National Accounts Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau

Stuff Happens - Anticipating & Adapting
by David Gabri, President & CEO
Associated Luxury Hotels International
I once heard the statement, "The key to success is how well you adapt to Plan B."
While this can apply to life, it also is relevant to the meetings, incentives, and hospitality marketplaces. After all, one of the greatest challenges many of us face is the need to be prepared for the unexpected, and to handle it with anticipated clarity. We're particularly aware of this these days with the highly publicized environmental, weather-related and natural disaster events, and of man-made threats and security issues.

President's Volunteer of the Quarter
Stephanie Langdon Staff Associate, Hospitality Studies Department New York Institute of Technology I first met Stephanie Langdon at a PCMA program in 2010 and then had the chance to spend some time with her at Convening Leaders 2011. She is the type of young person that blows you away the moment you meet her with poise and professionalism that is impressive beyond her years. Stephanie is a very busy individual. She is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Communication Arts at the New York Institute of Technology, and also serves as Staff Associate for the Hospitality Studies Department at the University. She also plans the School of Management's Student Advancement Events. Stephanie's positive attitude is infectious. This year at Education Day, Stephanie showed up early in the morning to volunteer at Education Day, and within 10 minutes she mastered her volunteer role and went above and beyond in assisting us with some critical components of some very important moving parts on site for the program. Stephanie's passion is creating special moments for people to enjoy, and eventually would like to be an event planner for a company that specializes in weddings, galas, and charity balls. I have complete confidence that Stephanie has a bright future ahead of her in the special event business, and I wanted to take an opportunity to shine the spotlight on a young person deserving of a very special thanks for her contributions and influence to students and the PCMA community at large |
MISSION STATEMENT
PCMA New York Area Chapter's main purpose is to represent PCMA on a local level by offering quality educational seminars, along with the opportunity for members to contribute their time, knowledge, and experience through networking and committee involvement to further the professionalism of the meetings industry.
