Following Tiger into the Woods
Curry Headshot

I saw very little of Tiger Woods playing at the Masters tournament and that was enough to know that he was not out of the woods. Literally. A couple of his shots landed in the trees as he and arch-rival Phil Mickelson, the two favorites, finished fifth and sixth.  Of course, thousands of African-Americans were deeply disappointed that Woods did not collect his fifth green jacket in Augusta.

CHICAGO - Representative Jesse L. Jackson Jr. went to see the Illinois governor in December to press for an appointment to the United States Senate seat being vacated by Barack Obama. Mr. Jackson took along a black binder filled with letters of support, poll numbers and lists of his accomplishments over 13 years in Congress.

By dawn the next morning, the governor, Rod R. Blagojevich, was under arrest and accused of trying to sell his appointment to the seat. And Mr. Jackson landed in his own political hot seat as federal prosecutors revealed wiretap evidence that one of his fund-raisers had promised to raise $1.5 million for Mr. Blagojevich in exchange for the appointment.

The bad news has been no secret: Omaha's black population lags the city's white residents on income and a number of other measures.

But the good news outlined in a report being released today is that it's not too late to turn the tide and that there are strategies to fix the gap.

The Congressional Black Caucus delegation that
visited Havana last week was naive not to notice -- or disingenuous not to acknowledge -- that Cuba is hardly the paradise of racial harmony and equality it pretends to be. Still, that's no reason for the United States to continue the illogical, ineffective, hard-line policies that have produced an unbroken 47-year record of failure. READ MORE

President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are trapped in role model hell, what with her off-the-rack dresses, his new international humility, their intact African-American family, the rescue dog search and, of course, the vegetable garden.
