Fellow Ice Carvers,

Sarah, age 6

Although many of you are already familiar with Sarah, a friend suggested that I introduce her to you.  Yes, she has been my helper on the competition circuit hauling buckets of water, keeping time, helping lift & enduring long stretches in the cold all in the name of love.  More recently we have been teaming up together once a year to make a piece of ice art.  The results have been rewarding in many ways.  Now meet the other Sarah-

At the time the above photo was taken Sarah already knew she was going to be an art teacher.  For the past 10 years she has been teaching art & developing art programs not only for her classroom, but also for other community based art centers.  I believe you must be born to do this.  It requires knowledge, kindness, experience & endless patience.  (My life's mission has been to give her endless opportunities to practice being patient.  Perhaps she hasn't always appreciated that, but like most husbands, I usually know what is best).  She not only teaches them the skills necessary to create art,  she teaches kindness, respect, & appropriate social behavior (the skills of life).

 The Richfield Art Studio

Sarah is more than an extrordinary teacher.  In almost every situation her instinctive kindness kicks in.  This quality has been appreciated by students that are attending a school she opened a little over 2 years ago.  At The Richfield Art Studio, students bring to life one of Sarahs favorite sayings- "Create the life that you imagine".  Students of all ages file through the door to learn about ceramics, painting, drawing, & even guitar lessons.

Sarah's busy schedule (usually 5:30 am to 12:00 am) is split between her full time teaching job & all of the responsabilities that come with running her own school.  This leaves little time for Yoga, playing the guitar, & making lasagna.  All things that inspire her.

Over 12 years ago (on Richard Alfords loading dock) we met.  At that time, I didn't recognize her kindness, nor her strength & had no understanding of her potential.  (There is no need to explain the motivations of a single guy).  I could not predict her living up to her potential of being an inspirational teacher.  I never expected to be so smitten then & ever since  Meet Sarah
