Discerning the WHY of your youth ministry. Have you tried exciting programs and curricula only to find the numbers of young people in your church dwindling? Do you fear losing new families in your church because you haven't developed a good children/youth ministry? Well, Rev. Nicole Havelka, associate conference minister for youth and young adult ministries, can help. She has designed four, two-hour sessions that will help your youth ministry leadership team discern WHY God calls them to this important ministry so that they can more deliberately choose HOW they do ministry. A few months ago the Central City church offered choir robes free to any takers.  Liz and Doug Searles, our missionaries in Lodz, Poland, took them up on the offer.  You can see the photogenic results on our home page (scroll down).  Their December missionary letter with another photo is linked to the Local Church Resources page under "Stewardship and Mission".
 
The Illinois South Conference of the UCC is seeking a Director of Outdoor Ministries.  Qualifications and specific responsibilities are listed in the position description which is available with the application on the Illinois South Conference (http://iscucc.org/aboutisc/employment.html ) and DuBois Center (www.duboiscenter.org) web sites.

The Center for Emotional Intelligence and Human Relations is offering several iterations of a workshop at various locations throughout 2010.  The leaders are Roy Oswald of the Alban Institute and Jackie Bahn-Henkelman, Ph.D. of the Center for EQ-HR Skills.  Their mission is to equip leaders within faith based organizations with skills that enhance their leadership abilites by developing emotional intelligence competence, building human relations skills, and providing coaching support.  Go to our continuing education page for the many dates and place this is available.

The Iowa Conference is co-sponsoring with Grand View University its 2010 Congregational Leadership Series.  This year's theme is "The Simpler You," which will be presented three times at various locations in Iowa.  To download the brochure, go to the continuing education page of our website.
