| Guedelon Castle | |
Under construction using only 13th centry methods
In the heart of Puisaye, in Yonne, Burgundy, a team of fifty people have taken on an extraordinary feat: to build a castle using the very same techniques and materials used in the Middle Ages. The materials needed for the construction of the castle - wood, stone, earth, sand and clay - are all to be found here, in this abandoned quarry. Before the gaze of thousands of visitors, all the trades associated with castle-building - quarrymen, stonemasons, woodcutters, carpenters, blacksmiths, tile makers, basket makers, rope makers, carters and their horses - are working together to complete the castle. Work on the site began in 1997 and is scheduled to take 25 years to complete. Guédelon offers a unique opportunity to witness the different stages of a castle's construction, each phase being of interest in its own right.
Quarrying, stone carving, stone masonry, woodworking, transporting materials by horse and cart are just some of the many crafts and skills that visitors to Guédelon may discover or re-discover. Let yourself be transported from the present day, back to the sights and sounds of a 13th century construction site.

| Norwegian Epic - No Traditional Dining! | |
BY DAVID G. MOLYNEAUX, TheTravelMavens.com
Norwegian Cruise Line fired the first shot. A decade later, the dining room revolution at sea continues: a battle between the traditional two seatings each evening and a more modern, flexible style of eating dinner when you want.
Before Norwegian changed the rules, inflexible daily dining schedules had been followed since the beginning of modern ships crossing oceans. You dressed for dinner. You ate when and where you were told. And you sat at a big table, sometimes with delightful new friends, sometimes with folks you would rather not take back home to meet grandma.
When Norwegian (NCL) invented Freestyle Cruising, giving passengers daily choices for dinner was viewed by many experts as more gimmick than trend-setter.
They were wrong. Eating aboard ship has not been the same since...

Good or interesting information that doesn't require a whole article!
Air Canada has announced daily non-stop service to New Orleans, LA beginning on 30 October 2010. The new route will be operated with a 75-seat CRJ aircraft.
Norwegian Cruise Lines will not feature a karaoke bar aboard the new Norwegian Epic cruise ship.
WestJet has announced the expansion of the airline's suite self service options as it rolled out its self-serve baggage tagging option to airports across Canada. The move follows positive feedback from guests in Vancouver, Montreal and Edmonton, where the feature was launched earlier this year.
The Toronto Port Authority will go ahead with a C$45 million pedestrian tunnel to Toronto's island airport to improve access and meet higher demand. It will take about two years to build the tunnel, which will bore through the shale underneath a 123-metre stretch of Lake Ontario.
The Bangor Daily News reports that Rockland Maine is taking steps to limit cruise ship visits. The Harbor Management Commission apparently presented preliminary guidelines to the council that recommended allowing just three visits a year by mega-ships. The commission proposes allowing 15 visits a year by medium-size ships and 35 visits by small ships. |
| Questions & Answers | | Q - "Why do airlines advertise cheap fare and then have a bunch of add-ons? Why don't they just advertise the real price" A - Good question. Actually, Legislation requiring that airlines include all the extra fees, surcharges and taxes in airfare ads became law in June 2007 with the support of all political parties, but has been delayed since by a senate change that required further consultation with the provinces and airlines.
