Rector's Reflections

"Bring out your stuff!  Bring out your stuff!"

(spoken with my best Monty Python voice... )

On Sunday morning, June 5, following the 9 a.m. service, we are going to bless the stuff. What stuff?, you may be asking.  Well, the stuff we use to "re-create." This weekend is the 50th Anniversary Recreation Event and we are celebrating all the ways we re-create our selves, and the ways we bless God by playing and being so authentically human.  Many of the activities we enjoy involve stuff whether it be a racquet, clubs (sounds very medieval), balls, bats, gloves, shoes, binoculars, telescopes, walking sticks, boats, rods, even birdies. This means the kids' stuff, too.

So on Sunday bring your stuff and put it on the patio (if it's raining we'll put the stuff in the undercroft) and we will bless the stuff by asperging it (in other words throw Holy Water at it). We will conclude with prayers and thanksgiving.  If it's too big to bring (Torben's fishing boat) then bring a picture.  No recreational acutimont will be turned away.

St. Michael's 50th Anniversary Campaign --

"I am not sure what to do!"

Well, you are not alone.  We have been asked this question by quite a few members with regard to the 50th Anniversary Campaign. Here's the breakdown -- to reach our goal we will need each family of St. Michaels to make a pledge of $1,000. Now I can hear some of you gasp, but don't be alarmed.  Some of you are giving a sigh of relief, saying to yourself, I can do that. I know some of you can do $1,000 without too much pain, while for others it seems like an unrealistic goal. Let me break it down even further.

$1,000 given over 12 months is $83.33 a month

$1,000 given over two years is $41.67 per month

Now here's the most important part. There are some who just can't do that amount. There are some of us who can do well above that amount. What we all need to do is to give generously. For those who give over $1,000, you will be covering the shortfall of one of your fellow Christians. For those who couldn't possibly do $1,000, rest assured someone is going to help you by sharing your piece of the campaign.

Together we can reach our goal which will prepare us for the next 50 years of ministry. So be prepared on June 12 to make your pledge and do your part. Follow this link to download a pledge card. And we thank you in advance for your generous pledge.

June 4 is almost here and it is not to late to sign up for one of our large or small group activites. There is still time to come to the cookout (as long as you bring a dish to share and a lawn chair).

You can sign up for any of these events by sending an e-mail to info@stmichaelsracine.org or calling us at 639-2507. We need to hear from you by Thursday, June 1.

Branches Meeting

Connecting Military Families

Do you have an active duty military service member in your family?  Do you miss that person, feel "stinkin' proud" of him or her, and are concerned about his or her well-being?  Would you like to meet with other military families who understand what you are feeling?  Drop into a meeting of "Branches" in St. Michael's library.  We meet the first Monday of the month from 6-8 p.m.

Bring pictures and stories to share.  Also bring a potluck dish and your own alcohol-free beverage.  Children are welcome, however, there will not be child care available.  The next meeting is Monday, June 6.  For more information, call Sandy Clark at (262) 886-8548.

Cosmic VBS Wish List

Cosmic City Vacation Bible School is coming to St. Michael's July 11-15!  In order to make it a truly spectacular week, we need your help.  The VBS team is asking for donations of items for decorating, crafts, science lab, games, etc.  It takes quite a lot to put on a VBS program for 50+ kids!

You may be wondering, how you can help?   We're going to have a bulletin board that is similar to the Giving Tree at Christmas.  There are stars, planets, suns, etc on the board.  Each item has a Wish List item on it.  Examples include coffee filters, tablecloths, cash donations, stickers, balloons, cornmeal, just to name a few.

Check out the board to see how you can help make this an "Out of this World" experience for our children!

* Take the item off the bulletin board so we know someone is taking responsibility for it.
* Purchase the item.

* Return it to Church NO LATER than June 26.  Earlier is better!  There will be a collection bin outside the office.  There will be a special box for cash donations.

* Pray for the volunteers and children.  VBS Runs July 11 - 15

VBS also needs appliance boxes!

We are in need of appliance boxes. The boxes will be used to make rockets, spaceships and robots. If you or anyone you know will be receiving new appliances by July 1, please contact Sue Marsteller at 639-1755 or smarsteller@wi.rr.com.  Sue will pick up the boxes from your home.

Thank you for your generosity.  If you have any questions, please contact a member of the VBS Planning Team:  Kim Forsman, Sue Marsteller, Lynn Bitney, Doug Olson, Liz Ross.
