Dancing with the stars!
"Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee that's why they call me Terry" Actually it should be Mohammad Ali, but I stole it because in recent months my wife and I have begun to take Ballroom Dancing. Now let me make myself perfectly clear, JoEllen carries me. I am a dancing liability. But regardless, we have a lot of fun doing it. Dr. Scott and Lynn Meyer are also Ballroom Dancers and we came to find out we share the same instructor, Guy Singer.
Now you may be asking why I am telling you all this and let me reassure you there is a purpose to this particular rambling by the rector. You see Scott and Lynn are chairing the next 50th Anniversary Celebration event which is entitled "Celebrating Marriage" Scott and Lynn were married here at St. Michael's a couple years ago and eagerly wanted to be on the planning team for this event. When the concept of having a reception-like event Saturday evening (March 26th) came about they jumped at the chance of suggesting we have dancing on Saturday evening. The idea caught fire and now we have Guy Singer coming to do a 30 minutes group lesson and, get this, there is going to be exhibition dancing performed by Scott and Lynn Meyer and Terry and JoEllen McGugan. That's right! The Meyers and the McGugans are going to do an exhibition dance. I am not sure what the Meyers are doing, perhaps Swing Dancing which they are really good at by the way. But the McGugans are going to do the Fox Trot. We have been practicing like fiends and JoEllen has sacrificed several toes to the effort.
It should be a fun evening so when your invitation arrives either by email or by post RSVP quickly because we only have limited seating for dinner on Saturday evening. Also remember on Sunday morning we will be having a special sermon on Marriage and a renewal of vows for all who would like to participate. Following the service we will have a cake and punch reception in the undercroft. So invite your friends and neighbors and all who want to renew their vows to church on Sunday Morning March 27th.

Lenten Devotions!
Many people want to "take on" a discipline for Lent rather than "give up" something. One of the disciplines that many Episcopalians - and other Christians- wistfully think about taking on the regimen of structured daily prayer that includes reading of scripture. Consider exploring this rich practice by joining a Sunday morning course that allows you to become familiar with the form. I know from personal experience that the daily office works. Five and a half years ago Terry McGugan changed my life. In a conversation about my interest in seeking the deaconate, Terry directed me to begin praying the daily office. Specifically, he opened the Book of Common Prayer to page 137 and said "Bob - I want you to pray Morning Prayer -and I want you to do it every day- just like you swim". I had struggled and failed at doing daily devotions for over fifteen years. I'd tried many different formats and authors. I still have two of those devotionals on my book shelf: Keep It Simple and My Utmost for his Highest by Oswald Chambers. Believe me, there were many others- all now donated to Good Will. I began doing Morning Prayer on July 12, 2005 and have done it each and every day since. The practice of showing up and giving yourself over to this form can enrich and change your life too. As Anglicans we have a rich and beautiful heritage available for our use. All we need to do is open the Book of Common Prayer. Anglicans over the world pray at least a portion of the Daily Office every day. Consider joining them and Terry and me by coming to the classes, to be held after both the 7:30 and 9:00am services.

Campaign Corner
Last week, in the Rector's Ramblings, Fr. Terry shared with us the news that the 50th Anniversary Campaign is underway. The Campaign is an important part of our 50th Anniversary Celebration, as it provides the resources necessary to position St. Michael's for our next 50 years as a faith community.
The Vestry has set a goal for the Campaign of $250,000, and $110,000 has already been pledged by current and past members of St. Michael's. THANK YOU to all of you who have graciously given of your time, talent and treasure to this effort! What a fantastic show of support. Really, it must be said again...THANK YOU!
We will officially "kick-off" the campaign after holy week, and ask the entire congregation to join together in this effort to provide for the future of our community. In the weeks leading up to our kick-off we will share with you in this "Campaign Corner" section of our newsletter more of the details of the Campaign. You will read about our plans for a new boiler, and the energy savings that will result. You'll discover the savings we've already achieved by retiring our kitchen debt, and learn more about investments to be made in our roof and parking lot. And, you'll hear about our plans to engage in greater outreach efforts. We want you to understand the details of each of these projects, so that you can make an informed choice about your participation. We ask in the coming weeks that you talk with your family and fellow parishioners about the campaign, celebrate the gifts that have been given, and pray about your participation and the future of St. Michael's Church.

Missionary to Kansas?
Several years ago, a wild series of coincidences brought Wayne Pike from Kansas, to Minnesota, and finally to St. Michael's Church. He came to be near his two sons, Jacob and Joshua, who were active in youth group.
In his years here, Wayne helped (and then led) Youth Group, was elected to Vestry, served as Acolyte Director, and coordinated Happening for the Diocese. Now, having been fully trained, Wayne is ready to go back to Kansas to enrich the lives of people there.
His last day as a regular attendee will be March 13, 2011. Please join us for a special brunch after service to wish him well in his new endeavor after the 9:00 service. Please bring any special memories to share.
There is no cost for the brunch. Please RSVP to Mike Prudhom at mrprudhom@wi.rr.com or 262-632-4394 so he has a number to plan for.

Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday is a day of repentance and is the first day of Lent. It occurs 46 days (40 days not counting Sundays) before Easter. It falls on a different date each year because it is dependent on the date of Easter. It can occur as early as February 4 (February 5 on leap years) or as late as March 10.
Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of worshippers as a sign of repentance. Ashes were used in ancient times, according to the Bible, to express mourning. Dusting oneself with ashes was the penitent's way of expressing sorrow for sins and faults. It marks the start of a 40-day period commemorating the time Jesus was in the desert to fast and pray.
The ashes used are typically gathered after the Palms from the previous year's Palm Sunday are burned. The Priest marks the forehead of each person with black ashes in the shape of a cross, which the worshipper traditionally retains until it wears off.
This year Ash Wednesday is on March 9th. We will have services at 12:15 and 7:00 PM.

Have you ever been hungry?
Once a month, St Michael's helps feed the hungry at St. Patrick's Meal Program. This month the day is March 10th. If you have never been there to serve, you should try it some time. I have seen children as young as 5 or 6 bringing their younger siblings in to eat because they are not getting food at home. I have seen people of all ages who are down on their luck who are in need of nourishment. Some of these people look like they have recently been in the position to need help and others who have had hard times all their lives. The one thing they all have in common is that they are hungry and need our help. This month it is our turn to provide 6 salads for the meal program. Please get a pan in the kitchen or bring a disposable 9x13" pan filled with salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, or pasta salad). You do not have to provide dressing, they have it at St. Pats. Bring it to church by 3:00 PM and our St. Pat's Angel, Lucy Dykstra, will take it to St. Pat's. **REMEMBER MARCH 10TH, 3:00PM**
