ArtsThe Annual Meeting On Super Bowl Sunday! Really?

I know, but who could have predicted the Packers would make it! Listen the game is in the afternoon, you will have plenty of time to get ready. We should be done with the meeting no later than
12 noon. I guarantee it because I have chili to make and my famous "bologna roll-ups".  Also we will keep the kids occupied with Sunday School and Youth Sunday Singing rehearsal and activities. So don't stress. We've got it covered. In fact we are serving breakfast after the 9:00am service so no worries.

Now the next major objection to the Annual Meeting is the fact it's the Annual Meeting. I know. I know. Everyone loves to complain about the "Annual Meeting". And let me tell you, I have served in churches where the Annual Meeting was not a pleasant experience. I have seen red faces and veins popping out of foreheads as temper flare over contentious issues. But I have to be real honest that has never happened at St. Michael's as long as I have been here. Our Annual meetings tend to be enjoyable affairs where we do the work of the Church. We elect our representatives for the Vestry. We discuss the budget approved and presented by the vestry, which by the way is a surplus budget.  We review the year past and we present our future plans and expectations. All the while we laugh, discuss and enjoy each other's company.

In order to make things easier you can access the Annual Report, the Annual Financial Report and Nominations Packet by following this link.

T.V. Fr. Scott Stoner Guest Preacher for February 6th

We invited Scott to preach as a way for St. Michaels to get to know him. He is one of our Guest presenters for our upcoming Winter/Spring Super Tuesdays.  Scott's course called "Living Compass" will begin on March 22nd and will run for 6 weeks. Here's some more information about him.

"Scott Stoner grew up in the Diocese of Milwaukee and has been a priest for nearly thirty years.  He recently served as the rector of St. Christopher's in River Hills from 2001-2008.  In 2008 he returned to his long time ministry of pastoral counseling and opened up a new non-profit counseling and wellness center in Milwaukee called Samaritan Family Wellness.  Scott has recently created a "whole-person" wellness program called Living Compass.   It is a small group program that helps people create a greater sense of balance and wholeness in their lives by connecting their Christian faith more deeply with their daily lives.  The four points of the Living Compass are Heart, Soul, Strength and Mind, and the program assists people in making Christ the "living compass" in all aspects of their lives."

Welcome Scott we are so glad to have you with us!

CopsYouth Sunday Goes Above and Beyond by Reaching Out to the Community

 Baby Shower

February 13th is Youth Sunday and our children have raised the bar.  Yes! We will have a kids sermon with a special guest "Billy the Bull Frog" (watch out because he's not so nice). Yes! Our kids will be acolytes, and greeters, and ushers and readers. But here's the best part our "Lil-K" and "Johnny Rogers" classes will be singing following the sermon. They have been practicing for weeks and in fact they will be practicing this coming Sunday during Sunday School so make sure to be there.

Finally here is the BIG part. We are throwing a "Baby Shower" for the children of Racine. Through a non-profit organization called Care Net.  Care Net is a Christ-centered ministry whose mission is to promote a culture of life within our society in order to serve people facing unplanned pregnancies and related sexual issues. Locally Care Net  helps young mothers, teenage mothers and women with at risk pregnancies. These woman and their families need help with some of the most basic supplies for caring for their babies. That's where we come in.

In the Narthex is a "Pack and Play" and we want to fill it with diapers, formula, wipes, baby food, clothing, shampoo and everything else a baby needs. We have two Sunday's to fill it up and make a difference in our community. Please join our children in making a difference in other children's lives.

February 6th we will have Sunday School following breakfast. We will practice our songs for 'Youth Sunday" February 13 and have our regular Sunday School Lesson. There will be activities for all age groups until the Annual Meeting concludes. The meeting will go no later than 12 noon.

Christianity is not about religion it's about .............

You fill in the blank. If you have been through Alpha you know what the answer is..... "Relationship" There are tons of folks out there who have no idea what Christianity is about. They think it is a list of does and don'ts which are impossible to fulfill. So why even try, Right?

We have some good news for those folks. Christianity is about relationship with our God through Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. It's about life giving, life fulfilling relationships with each other. It's not about religion.

People need to hear that good news. That's why we have Alpha, to share with folks the good news that their life can be different, better, and eternal through relationship with their God and creator. But if no one invites them to come and hear this good news they may never hear it and spend their whole lives missing the point.

If you have been through Alpha then invite someone to hear the good news once again in a new fresh way. If you have never been to Alpha then here is your chance. Follow the link to our web site and register on line. And remember bring a friend because it is all about relationships.

Christianity OR Codependency? / Living Compass

If you were a real Christian you wouldn't treat me like this!"

Have you ever heard that before? Have you ever been accused of not being a Christian because you have told someone NO? Do you find yourself not sure what to do because you want to do the "Christian" thing but something in your gut tells you it might not be the right thing? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then I would suggest you take "Co-dependence or Christianity".

This is a six week course being offered at Super Tuesday starting Feb 8th. Liz Simmons the rector of St. Luke's in Racine, who in a former life was an addictions counselor, will help us sort through the issues surrounding co-dependence and our desire to walk in the ways of Jesus. She will explore scripture which so often are used to justify co-dependant behavior.

"I just feel out of balance!"

Have you ever said that to yourself?  Have you ever felt like your standing on stage juggling tennis balls and you have a few in the air and you're doing all right but there is a guy off stage who keeps throwing another ball at you, forcing you to juggle one more  and it feels like it is all about to come tumbling down on your head? Often times our lives, our priorities, our focus get out of whack. We can't seem to get our bearings and it feels we are wandering around getting nowhere. Well Scott Stoner knows how that feels and has helping people put their lives back into balance for decades as a psychotherapist and Episcopal Priest.

Scott is no longer in parish ministry because he now heads up a non-profit organization called Samaritan Wellness and has developed a program called "Life Compass" which is a six week course that helps folks sort through the confusion and "out of balance" of our lives to restore focus and balance to our lives and faith. You can follow this link to "Samarian Wellness" and explore "Life Compass" for yourself. There is also an on line inventory tool which may help you decide you want to take the course. If you are already sold, just follow this link to our web site and register on line. And remember; bring a friend because it is all about relationships.

Crazy Love

I have heard "Crazy in love" but never "Crazy Love"

Crazy love is a new book out by Francis Chan a pastor on the west coast. His book explores the depth, and height of God's love for us. Could you image the love that kept Jesus on the cross? Think about your own love for your children or grandchildren.  That is just a fraction of the love God has for us. It is such love which fuels his desire to be in relationship with each of us individually. It's "crazy love".

Join this book study offered during our Winter/Spring Super Tuesday Semester. Sure you could buy the book and read it on your own. But you would miss out on the fellowship and community that grows in a group of folks as they share their thoughts and experiences related to the book they are studying. So follow the link to our website and register on line. And remember; bring a friend because it is all about relationships.

CDICDI Communication Series

CDI Communication Series

Product

Why is your team together?  Our Men's Group meets for fellowship and accountability.  We formed by just meeting together and getting to know one another.  We came up with a process to keep each other accountable.  Our goal is to grow to be better men of God.

The product can be an event, a report, or something physical.

The Vestry is working on a strategic plan to help guide and shape the future of St. Michael's.  The 50th Anniversary Committee is creating events throughout the year to help us recognize how far we have come, and help St. Michael's be recognized in the community.  The Choir meets to bring music to our worship service. The Sunday school teachers form youngsters in the faith.

It goes on and on.  The church, through its 2000 years of history, has been a bunch of Christians (people), finding a way to worship, fellowship, evangelize, and minister (process), to fulfill God's call to us (product).

Where you are in your faith today has been influenced by the people who came before you, developing the Rites of the church (process), to bring you to a place of knowing God (product).

You can probably trace this process back in your work as well.

Conclusion

Why did I share all of this with you?  Maybe I am 'evangelizing' CDI.  To effectively use these principals and processes throughout our ministry, there need to be more CDI trained folks doing the ministry of the church.

What will CDI require?  The time commitment for CDI is a Friday and Saturday night in Madison four times each year, for 2 years, plus time for reading and projects.  The cost is $625/person per year, plus the cost of books and transportation, with part born by the Diocese, part by the church, and part by the individual.

So why should someone attend CDI?  First and foremost, attend because God calls you to attend.  If He doesn't, you probably shouldn't.  If God's call is not enough, it can enhance your work and any social groups (alumni associations, condo associations, or clubs).  It may also help St. Michael's fulfill its mission.

If you are at all interested in learning more about CDI, please feel free to contact me.  You can reach me at home (262) 632-4394 most evenings between 7 and 9 PM, and on weekends.  You can also e-mail me at mrprudhom@wi.rr.com.  CDI Dates for 2011-2012 are 9/23-24/2011, 11/11-12/2011, 2/10-11/2012, and 4/27-28/2012.
