Spring Forward

Spring at UNC Quad

For most of the country, spring is working to supplant winter.  Temperatures are increasing, flowers are blooming, and the world has a little more hop in its step.  At IT Works, we want to do our part to make this a lovely time of year in your office.

This month we looked at two more ways that our software can be used to enhance your office operations:

1. Our training feature provides an overview of the Online Module, which gives your faculty web access to the accounting information in Department Manager.

2. We highlight data imports that are available.  This provides a way to reduce your data entry by loading data from your GL or Payroll system directly into the software.

With everyone expected to do more with less, we want to make sure you are utilizing all of the tools provided through IT Works.  As is always the case, let us know if you have any questions about how to use any of them.

Providing Reports with the Online Module

Paperwork Pile

Are you burdened with preparing and distributing paper reports to your Principal Investigators (PIs) and Faculty?  Would you like to provide information to your investigators without producing multiple reports each time they request an update?  The Online Module (OLM) provides a secure web user interface for users to log on and view their grant accounting information anytime and create a variety of reports.

The OLM is a web-based reporting system for the Accounting, Personnel, and Facility Modules that is extremely easy to use and requires virtually no training.  It is designed to deliver our most popular reports to faculty and research staff via the web without the involvement of administrative accounting personnel.  PIs can go to a URL, enter their user name and password, and then view data associated with their grant accounts.  Using "drill down" technology, faculty can retrieve real-time information pertaining to their accounts based on their security settings defined in Department Manager or College Administrator.

Importing Data into IT Works

Laptop with Data

IT Works can provide your office with an array of useful reports full of data grouped and synthesized in multiple ways.  Producing reports is relatively simple: just make a couple of selections, push a button or two, and you have consolidated information at your fingertips.  The challenge is to get quality information into the system.

If you don't have an unlimited amount of time to devote to data entry, an import procedure from IT Works may be just what you need.   If you can provide a file from either your general ledger or payroll system, our team can create a process to load that data into the software.

The benefits of adding a data import are two fold:

1. Time savings compared to manual data entry.

2. Accuracy in matching numbers from your GL or payroll system.

If you think adding either a transaction or payroll import to your installation would help, please contact us to schedule a consultation.
