The Sagebrush Shop hop was a roaring success, and we have MANY new names added to our email list. Hopefully we've deciphered everyone's spelling properly and therefore have spelled your name correctly. If not, PLEASE let us know via email at CattleCntryQlts@eoni.com.
We welcomed several hundred visitors to our little shop here in downtown Joseph during the Sagebrush hop and then the very next week, during Chief Joseph Days (which is THE EVENT for Joseph, Oregon) and is in its 65th year. What a great time we all had....family and class reunions, parades, rodeos, carnivals, etc., etc. To top it all off, the weather was beautiful...love those clear, sunny days when our mountains shine even more spectacularly than usual!

For all of you Wallowa Countians ... don't forget to enter the Wallowa County fair. Most of us qualify to enter our quilting, sewing, garden produce, photography, canning, etc., etc. projects in the OPEN CLASS. And for you non-Wallowa Countians, don't forget to visit the fair, which is held each year in Enterprise. (This is the 101st year!) The dates are July 31 (dog show, horse show, and livestock first of the week) through the final day of August 7, which is the livestock auction and last day for viewing the exhibits at the Cloverleaf Hall.
Date to enter non-perishable OPEN CLASS (that means quilting, folks!) is Monday, August 2, from 8:00 to noon at the Cloverleaf Hall. We have copies of the FAIR GUIDE here at the shop that includes all sorts of details...come in and pick one up.
The way it works is ... obtain an EXHIBITOR'S NUMBER at the Extension Office in Enterprise (north of the Cloverleaf Hall, just off of Highway 3) prior to August 2 (you can also get one on August 2 if you can't get there before). Then enter your items by completing an exhibit card (they will have them at the Cloverleaf when you check in).
We all LOVE TO LOOK at items entered, so don't forget to share YOUR ITEM(s) so we have plenty at which to look! In years past, quilting items (especially) have been almost non-existent at the fair, and I happen to KNOW that we have many, many fine quilters here in Wallowa County. Don't be shy! Enter your items...we LOVE to look at them! |

We've received a few hints that several Wallowa Countians have made special quilts for the event our shop is sponsoring at the Wallowa County Fair. As you may remember, the special category is entitled "Life in Wallowa County" and the first prize is a $50.00 check from our shop. (Second place winner will receive $25.00!)
Entries are to measure up to 200" in perimeter, and must be a complete quilt with top, batting, and backing. Entries must have an EXHIBITOR NUMBER (available at the Extension office prior to August 2) and at the Cloverleaf on August 2. On your Exhibit card (available at the Cloverleaf Hall on August 2 from 8:00 to noon), write "Cattle Country Quilts Life in Wallowa County." We've visited with several of the ladies that will be helping you enter your "Life in Wallowa County" quilt, so they should be knowledgeable about this special event and be able to help you as needed.
