HEY! What's the Deal?

I thought the Microsoft support would run through 2010 for security updates for Windows 2000. Did not Farmers tell you that has changed? They didn't tell me. Read it here where Microsoft dumps all support on Windows 2000 on July 13, 2010.

Microsoft has earlier announced they would dump support for Windows XP Pro in 2012. But, they have revised that to April 8, 2014 which is good news. Yet, I still push Firefox Explorer with Windows 2000 as Firefox is compatible  with IE 7 but Farmers says they are apparently not spending the money to support Firefox. You must support and conform to their system, some more. Frustrated Okie Agent.

Okie Agent, Amen. I agree that Firefox is less problematic than Windows IE that seems to be a continuous patch job like our Oklahoma roads.  Here's the company system specs.

Zurich Zurich 2009 Net Income up 6% to $3.2 Billion
The Zurich Financial Services Group posted across the board income gains in all of its core business segments and targeted growth in profitable market areas, particularly in Global Life and from Farmers.
The Group generated an increased business operating profit (BOP) in 2009 of $5.593 billion, an 8 percent increase from 2008, and posted net after tax income of $3.215 billion. As a result the Board of Directors announced that it would propose a dividend increase to the shareholders to CHF 16.00 [$15.07].
"2009 was an excellent year for Zurich. We generated a strong operating performance across all our core businesses and emerged from a challenging year with one of our strongest balance sheets ever," noted CEO Martin Senn. "It is that proven ability to generate consistent earnings and achieve growth in targeted market segments that underpins my confidence looking forward, as it enables Zurich to face both challenges and opportunities from a position of strength."

Farmers Boosts Profits in 2009
Strong Growth at Farmers
Zurich's Farmers Management Services (FMS) grew its management fees and other related revenues by 9 percent to $2.7 billion, reflecting an 8 percent gross earned premium growth at the Farmers Exchanges (Exchanges), which Zurich manages but does not own.
The earnings report explained that "underlying drivers of this growth were the acquisition of 21st Century in July of 2009 and the transfer of North America Commercial's Small Business Solutions book to the Exchanges in June 2008." As a result FMS' gross management result improved by 13 percent, contributing to a 10 percent higher business operating profit of
Farmers Inc.
$1.291 billion and an improved managed gross earned premium margin of 7.2 percent. Zurich added that the "integration of 21st Century continues to progress in line with Farmers' successful integration track record.

"Farmers Re, which provides reinsurance to the Exchanges, nearly doubled its premium volume due to an increase of the existing All Lines quota share reinsurance treaty, executed in various steps, from 5 percent to 35 percent as of December 31, 2009 in connection with the acquisition of 21st Century.

"In combination with a higher investment income as a result of the increased participation in the All Lines quota share reinsurance treaty, Farmers Re's business operating profit rose to $228 million, contributing thereby to an increased business operating profit for the Farmers segment of $1.6 billion. The complete report, additional information and a replay of the conference for analysts and media, held today, February 3, may be obtained on the Group's web site at; www.zurich.com. pic allstate article Allstate: More customers buying auto insurance online

As drivers turn to the Internet to buy auto insurance, an insurer that has relied heavily on agents to sell its insurance will revamp.
Insurers that have traditionally relied on neighborhood agents to help bring in auto and homeowners insurance customers are adapting to the Internet, which has a growing appeal for drivers. Thomas J. Wilson, chief executive of Allstate Corp., said that half of its new auto insurance customers first make contact through Allstate's Web site, rather than its network of 14,700 exclusive agents and that Allstate will adjust to accommodate customer preferences. In 2008, Allstate took in $500 million in premiums through its direct channel, which includes its Web site and toll-free phone lines and direct premiums are growing at a 25 percent rate so far this year, Wilson said. Though direct premiums are still a small part of the $26.9 billion Allstate earned in property-casualty premiums last year, premiums have been sinking for auto insurers in general and the share that comes in through direct channels is rising dramatically

Jan 28, 2010 Jenks America-  Rather than Farmers sending the CEO to Oklahoma to speak Roling Stones Logoat the state meeting, they send a VP to convince agents that  "We Are Family."  Hear it here, a song made famous in 1976 by Sister Sledge; and perhaps the way it should have been presented.
Sister Sledge pic
However, the VP's rah, rah speech received an overly quiet funeral reaction from the agents as many of them may be humming the lyrics of another famous song.  Even now, this 1969 song is ranked number 2 on Rolling Stone Magazine's "500 Greatest Songs of All Time"

  J.D. Power and Associates Reports:
Lower Premiums at the Onset of the Current Recession Drive Significant Increase in Overall Satisfaction With Auto Insurance Companies, But a Hardening Market Could Eradicate 10 Years of Progress
Amica Mutual Ranks Highest among Auto Insurers for a 10th Consecutive Year
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: 17 August 2009 - Overall customer satisfaction with auto insurance companies is up significantly in 2009, driven primarily by low premiums, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 National Auto Insurance StudySM released today.

The study measures customer satisfaction with auto insurance companies across five factors. In order of importance, they are: interaction, policy offerings, billing and payment, price and claims.
Overall customer satisfaction with auto insurance companies has reached a five-year high in 2009, averaging 801 on a 1,000-point scale-up by 14 points from 2008. More than one-half of the 32 companies ranked in 2009 have improved significantly year over year. While satisfaction has increased for the four most important factors contributing to overall satisfaction, the most notable increase has occurred in the area of price, which is up by 32 points from 2008. In addition, 42 percent of customers in 2009 report that their premiums decreased-without the customer switching to another insurer-which is nearly twice the rate from 2008.

One key behavior that can help mitigate dissatisfaction is engaging customers in discussions about rate increases prior to policy renewal time. When customers are notified in advance of rate increases greater than $100, and insurers or agencies offer to discuss coverage or policy options available that may mitigate the price change, customers are significantly more satisfied with their insurer overall.

See the Ranking Study Below
Industry Average was up 24 points in 2009.
Farmers-  up 41 points in the 2009 study.
AIG including 21st Century- 780 in 2008, up 1 point in 2009 study.

Great news!  After reviewing the the Next Generation 2nd Edition policy, the decision has been made to extend collapse coverage for patio covers. Any recent denials will be reopened and reviewed for coverage under the Next Generation 2nd Edition policy and any payment extended accordingly.   As always, each claim will be re-evaluated on its own merits and circumstances.  Let me or Tyler know if you have any questions.  Please share with your agents.

Oklahoma Farm Bureau Group and Members Downgraded by A. M. Best
Ok Farm Bureau logo
A.M. Best Co. reports it downgraded the financial strength rating to B (Fair) from B+ (Good) and issuer credit ratings to "bb" from "bbb-" of Oklahoma Farm Bureau Group and its members, Oklahoma Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and AgSecurity Insurance Company.
The companies are located in Oklahoma City.
The group's ratings were downgraded previously following poor underwriting results in 2008 and the first half of 2009.

The latest rating actions reflect Oklahoma Farm Bureau Group's continuing negative underwriting performance and its weakened risk-adjusted capitalization, which no longer supports the previous ratings.
The group has posted approximately $65 million in net underwriting losses through the first nine months of 2009, which was preceded by $64 million of net underwriting losses in full-year 2008, due primarily to frequent and severe weather-related events that mostly impacted its homeowners' book of business.

Together, these events have led to a significant decline in policyholders' surplus since year-end 2007, which has resulted in significantly reduced risk-adjusted capitalization, according to Best.
While the group continues efforts to bolster its surplus levels, reduce its highly elevated underwriting leverage ratio and improve its risk-adjusted capitalization measures, the ratings will remain under review with negative implications due to uncertainties associated with these initiatives.
The ratings remain under review with negative implications

DON'T DOUBLE UP ON ANTIVIRUS PROGRAMS
Gary wrote from Alamogordo, NM, where he tunes in on KINN 1270 AM. He needs help setting up AVG. He downloaded it through my Security Center. But the program is telling him to uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials. He doesn't want to do this.
Microsoft Security Essentials is an antivirus program. AVG is also an antivirus program. You should run only one antivirus program on your computer. Otherwise, they will conflict.
Antivirus programs have real-time scanning. When you download a file, the antivirus software scans it immediately. Multiple antivirus programs try to access the file simultaneously.
Whichever wins will lock the file while scanning it. The second program won't be able to access the file. This could cause your computer to crash.
You can remove Microsoft Security Essentials and install AVG. Or, just stick with Microsoft Security Essentials. Both are good antivirus programs.

Subject: FW: LIFE DIVISIONAL RANKING .. The TUNDRA ZONE

January 2010 MTD our district has I&P 2 life policies. Farmers' minimum performan
ce for each agent is 18/year, I understand we  must walk (1 Life I&P/month) before we can run (1.5 life I&P/month). As you can see from the email below, James Pursell is very tired of districts not meeting the life I&P goal. Last year everyone made the commitment to I&P 1 life policy in Sep, Oct, Nov and Dec.  2 agents accomplished this and 22 did not. I can no longer accept less than 12 life I&P per agent in 2010. James and I will be forced to take action if you do not reach the districts life I&P minimum of 12 in 2010 and 18 in 2011. Our district goal is 288 in 2010 and 432 in 2011. Please decide to make your/our goals.  This message is meant to insure that you understand what is expected in Life sales, not a threat.

[This DM even forwards State Director's email to agents]
You guys (DM's) going to man up in 2010 or is Chara going to have to continue taking this crap? District Managers cannot leave life results up to chance. District Leaders prepare to win and control the life results within their district operation. Clearly Home Office does not think you are any real threat to challenge agents in life sales. How much sand are you going to swallow before you get pissed off and make your damn life goal!

Expectation treatment of Agents and Employees?

CA. Claims 1/19/10-  took a position in claims. Taking a job with Farmers was the biggest mistake in my life. Their management is abusive and their expectations are unattainable.
Colorado Springs. Comm'l Und. 10/29/09- Plus, your manager will not rate you as "Meets Expectations" unless you are a brown-noser and suck up all of the extra work they expect you to do on your own time.
Northridge, CA. Claims? 05/12/09- This surely is the lowest point of working here.........they expect you to work around the clock in order to meet their unrealistic expectations.......try to declare your overtime, see what happens.....HAHAHAHAHA
From Frankfort, IL. - 10/14/2009- The only way a person can make a living as a Farmers Insurance Agent is to work for someone else. It is designed to get your top 100 family and friends to change their coverage to Farmers and then do everything it can to make sure you never achieve your quota. Of the thousands of people it recruits each year, few ever make it as agents.
CA. District Office 06/26/09- They will lead you to believe you will be an office assistant. Once you start, they may force you into recruiting and threaten you with being fired if you do not produce. You'll probably be fired for not meeting their unrealistic expectations before ever being promoted.
From West - 06/08/2009- Farmers Insurance puts a huge emphasis on their norms and values. In my experience, management does not follow their own "code of ethics" and makes it obvious that they are only in it for themselves. The way they treat their employees is shameful and makes Farmers an undesirable place to work.

"Undercover Boss" sends CEOs into the belly of their own companies to experience "real work" and improve the lives of their employees and contractors.

Episode 1- Larry O'Donnell, President and C.O.O. of World's largest Waste
Management Company, works alongside his employees.

Actually, President Larry goes under cover and shows up at several of his corporate locations as a new hire and fails miserably at his new assignments of cleaning porta-potties, sorting waste, collecting garbage from a landfill and even being fired by one of his employees for failing to make the grade for the first time in his life. At this end of this reality show, when Larry realized the pain he had caused to employees with tears running down his cheeks, he promised to make changes for the better.

This corporate president learned more at the bottom than what he assumed or takes for granted at the top. We may know what the real story is - CEOs are told what the VPs think they should know showing the VPs or Jr. VPs in the best light.

Okla flying flag Tag renewal online
Oklahoma Vehicle Tag Renewals
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - February 17, 2010 - Renewing your vehicle registration tag just got quicker and easier because Oklahomans can now renew online through the state's official Convenient Auto Renewal System (CARS). The secure online service is available at http://CARS.OK.gov, providing access for Oklahomans' commercial, non-commercial and farm vehicle registration renewals.
CARS also allows Oklahomans to sign up to receive an email when it is time to renew their tag with the Tax Commission's REMIND ME utility. Reminders will be sent the first day of the expiration month entered into the REMIND ME utility. Email address required. See other online renewal requirements at the above link.   -ed

Bill Would End Mailing of Most Oklahoma Car Tag Renewal Notices
NewsOn6.com 02/15/10
OKLAHOMA CITY -- The way Oklahomans receive notification of  when it's time to renew motor vehicle registration may be changing. Under Senate Bill 1397, proposed by Sen. Mike Mazzei (R) Tulsa, the Oklahoma Tax Commission could send renewal notices by e-mail.
Mailing notices costs more than a million dollars a year, according to the Oklahoma Tax Commission. For anyone without e-mail access, Sen. Mazzei said the bill would be revised to allow mailed notices costing you $1.

1. The state may stop sending out vehicle tag renewal notices. You must sign up online to receive an email renewal notice or pay $1 to have it mailed. SB-1397

2. Late tag renewal penalties have increased beginning 30 days after renewal month. What use to be a penalty of .25 cents per day has been increased 400% to $1.00 a day up to a max of $100.00 added to your tag renewal.

3. Renewing  your vehicle tag online will cost you $1.50 convenience fee. You will pay another $1.50 to verify liability insurance that was internally automated to each vehicle tag and VIN number by the state last year. And, you will pay another $2 for return mailing fee and the renewal tag sticker.

With the State of Oklahoma's budget about a $billion in the hole, there is strong appearance the state is pushing convenience of online tag renewals while at the same time planning to drop tag renewal reminders to perhaps pump up the number of late renewal penalties that were increased 400% last year. Penalties will be paid direct online to the state rather than Okla Tag Agents who rely on these penalties as a source of income to fund their operation costs. Tag Agents may be hard to find later this year.

Perhaps, you should post this information in your office and be a hero to your clients to avoid being hijacked on these late penalties   -ed
