Every day, Southern Arizonans in every stage of life come to us for help. Your support enables us to give them the assistance and resources they need to live better lives.
On behalf of our clients, we thank you for making successes like these possible in 2011:
Keeping People Safe: After eight years of friendly visits, one of our Senior Companion volunteers noticed a client's health was declining. When asked, the client said he was having trouble accessing his food stamps and had gone without for a while, and he wasn't eating well. Due to her monthly trainings, our Senior Companion knew who to call to resolve the situation, and the client is again eating healthful meals.
Inspiring to Learn: A 7-year-old entered our La Escuelita education and prevention program in South Tucson unable to read or spell his name. Over the course of a year, through our support, he can now read and write and has advanced three reading levels.
Building a Future: One 18-year-old woman, kicked out of her house when she became pregnant, gave birth while enrolled in our transitional housing program. She worked at a call center and attended school, and she recently passed her licensing exam. She now works as a pharmacy tech, making $12 an hour. With the tools to support and care for herself and her year-old daughter, she is graduating from our program to independence.
Rebuilding Relationships: After a successful mediation, one client said he and his neighbor had lived next door for 20 years, but this was the first time they had ever spoken to each other. In addition to helping them come up with an agreement to their dispute, he said the mediation set the stage for a new relationship between them.
Our services change lives, and we couldn't do it without the support of this community.
From Our Family to yours this holiday season, thank you.
