We need
sponsors and donations for online fundraiser

From April 1-15, Our Family will hold our third annual online fundraiser. With no events to attend, virtually all proceeds go directly to programs that make this community a better place to live, to grow up, and to grow older.

We need your help to get things started by becoming a sponsor or donating items for the auction catalog. We're looking for jewelry, fine art, tickets to cultural and sporting events, and gift certificates for dining, attractions, travel and services such as manicures, massages and oil changes.

Every sponsorship is 100% tax-deductible and will include a link to your company's website. It's a great way to show this community your business cares about those in need. Drop off your item at 3830 E. Bellevue, or call us at (520) 323-1708 x 105.

Make a donation!

Santa at La Escuelita

Our Family Executive Director Sue Krahe and South Tucson City Manager Enrique Serna joined the fun at La Escuelita.

Thanks to you and the Holiday Gift Tree, the holidays were brighter for our clients

"Santa got my letter!"

That's what one little girl said with tears in her eyes as she received a shirt, pants, shoes, art supplies and a toy she wanted. She and the other children of La Escuelita, our literacy and prevention program at the House of Neighborly Service in South Tucson, received a bountiful load of gifts individually chosen and wrapped by the Tucson Firefighters Association, and delivered by Santa, Mrs. Claus and one of their elves. Many of the children took their gifts home unopened so they would have something to open on Christmas.

Twenty-five local businesses and organizations like this, as well as 21 individuals, adopted names this year or held drives of toys and basic needs to benefit the children, youth and senior clients in our programs.

More than 325 clients received gifts and gift cards worth more than $20,000. For clients struggling to make ends meet, a gift card for groceries or new clothes for school made a huge difference. For many, it was the only gift they were to receive.

One disabled senior client who has been choosing between spending her limited income on food and medicines used her gift cards to buy both for herself, and thanked us for the "calming spirit" it brought to her holidays. Another used a gift card for the copayment on a needed medical test.

A formerly homeless young parenting couple got tires for their car so they could get to work and school.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart," said one homeless young client. "If I could meet you I'd give you a big hug."

From all of us at Our Family, our deepest appreciation to everyone whose generosity helped make this year's Holiday Gift Tree the best yet.

Street Outreach participating in federal research project

Our Family's Street Outreach program is among 11 nationwide selected to participate in a research-based demonstration project to gauge the effectiveness of the federal Street Outreach program model.

For more than 20 years, our Street Outreach program has gone where young people gather, offering help to come off the streets. Our Family is one of more than 180 organizations nationwide that receive Street Outreach funding.

Across the country, runaway, homeless and street-dependent youth are hard to track. It can be difficult to determine how or whether a young person we meet once in Tucson ever comes off the streets or accesses services. This research project aims to survey clients more extensively to make sure federal moneys are spent where they are most needed.
