Keep your tax dollars right here

The Arizona Charitable Tax Credit allows you to receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on your Arizona state income tax when you give to a qualifying charity that serves the working poor. Our Family is a qualifying charity.

This tax credit is completely separate from the Private School Tuition and Public School Activity tax credits -- you may participate in any or all three if you choose.

For those filing a single tax return, your tax credit can be up to $200; for those filing jointly, it's up to $400.

The amount you donate, up to these limits, will be deducted from the tax liability you owe the state. This means the money you pay in taxes can benefit your community through an organization that you choose!

Here's what to do:

1. Donate to Our Family, either online or by sending a check.

2. Prepare an itemized  state tax return.

3. Complete Arizona Tax Form 321 and include it with your state return.

Any cash contribution to Our Family in 2010 through any method qualifies for the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit.

Last year, Our Family touched the lives of 40,000 people in Southern Arizona. Through direct services such as counseling, housing, case management and mediation, or through information and referral services that help people find the resources they need, our programs truly make this community a better place to live, to grow up, and to grow older.

With your help:

Our Senior Companion volunteers gave 45,936 hours of companionship and friendly visits to isolated, homebound older people.

Our in-house clothing bank provided clothing for 300 clients and their families, many of whom came to our programs homeless, with nothing but the clothes they were wearing.

Our Reunion House provided a safe bed and homelike support for 149 teens who had nowhere else to go.

Our CommonUnity residential program provided a safe haven and a new start in life for 58 homeless young women and babies.

Our La Escuelita program helped some of South Tucson's most at-risk children learn to read. Many of these children come from homes where no one speaks English.

Our Holiday Gift Tree brightened the holidays for more than 270 of our neediest clients.

Thank you for helping Our Family make a difference in this community. From Our Family to yours, we wish you a joyous and safe holiday.

Peer mediation helping kids work it out

Our Family's Peer Mediation program trains students in grades 3-12 to help other students work out their conflicts in a peaceful and reasonable manner. School atmosphere improves as students learn alternatives to fighting, abusive language and bullying.

At the two-day training, up to 20 students learn negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills, as well as a mediation process. Once trained, students work in pairs to mediate and attend regular meetings to practice and learn new skills.
