Our Family adds new private-pay senior services

Do you have a disabled or older relative you can't care for every day? Are you unsure what's best for your aging parent?

With a rapidly aging population but shrinking resources for assistance programs, more and more people in Southern Arizona are looking for affordable options to help older and disabled people live as independently as possible. That's why Our Family continues to add new private-pay options to our continuum of quality services.

Choose the options you need:

Housing Placement Options -- Free Our staff will present options for out-of-home care, from assisted living to full care facilities, based on your needs and resources.

Eldercare Mediation -- $250 (up to 3 hours) Conflicts over eldercare issues can tear families apart. Our trained mediators help people have positive and resourceful conversations so they can make quality decisions about guardianship, health care, end-of-life issues and financial planning for those they care about.

Arm in Arm -- $15 per hour Regular visits from trained volunteers provide companionship for older and disabled adults, plus a chance for their caregivers to take time for themselves.

Grocery Shopping -- $30 per hour Our shoppers pick up groceries and prescriptions for you and deliver them to your home.

Comprehensive Assessment & Care Planning -- $250 (up to 3 hours) Full assessment of living environment, barriers to independence, lifestyle and financial resources. After identifying current and potential problems, a formal care plan is developed, including advice on housing placement.

Ongoing Care Management -- $75 per hour (minimum 2 hours monthly) Regular home visits monitor the client's well-being. We can set up and monitor other in-home services provided at extra cost (such as housecleaning, laundry, help with bathing, meal preparation, errands and transportation) and can make and accompany clients to doctors' appointments.

Lifeline -- Call for current fees. Medical alert service summons help 24/7 with the push of a button. Free activation, with no monthly contracts to sign.

Mediation training
starts March 31

Our Family's next 40-Hour Mediation Training course will be held 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays for six weeks beginning March 31. Classes will be held at the City of Tucson HR Training Facility, 52 W. Congress. There are no prerequisites for the class, which is open to adults 21 and over. Class fee is $400; $350 if paid by March 26.

The course prepares participants to mediate a variety of workplace, community and personal conflicts and is required for anyone interested in working as a mediation volunteer with Our Family. It's also an excellent skill for people involved in neighborhood groups and community organizations, or for human resources and customer service professionals.

Clothing needed for kids, youth

Our Family's residential facilities are operating at full capacity, and our in-house clothing bank is running low on clothing for children and teens.

That means young people 12-17 in our Reunion House shelter and the young moms, babies and toddlers in our CommonUnity program are having a harder time finding the clothes they need for work and school. Our clients are always in need of new underwear, socks and toiletries, as well as new or clean, gently-used clothing.

Please drop off your donations at our main office at 3830 E. Bellevue Street. Thank you for helping Our Family care for young people with nowhere to call home.
