The upside of government funding
If you've been following the news, you know times are tough for agencies like ours. Our Family receives roughly 85% of our funding from federal, state, county and city government contracts. In a sense, we're an extension of government -- specialists paid to provide specific services such as shelter for homeless youth, counseling for troubled families, mediation for neighbor disputes, or help for vulnerable elderly people. In the midst of the biggest budget crisis in Arizona history, it might seem as if our hefty government funding makes Our Family vulnerable. While we are certainly feeling the pinch, we are also confident in our ability to weather this crisis and move forward on stable fiscal footing. Our Family's government funding comes from more than 30 separate contracts. We expect some of these to be reduced, others to be cut entirely, but by moving as quickly as we can to reduce expenses along with revenue, the agency's core will remain solid. Applying for, getting and keeping government money involves a lot of forms and reporting. Our Family has built a streamlined administrative infrastructure to meet these strict requirements. More importantly, our records and facilities are inspected regularly to make sure we're making the best possible use of public funds. This means the highest levels of accountability, and the best quality of service for our clients. |
