Alicia Mutch, ABWA Chapter PresidentScholarship Fundraiser --
Countdown to the Raffle

There is one week left to sell the rest of our 500 raffle tickets for our Inspiring Women Scholarship Fundraiser. If we sell all 500 tickets, we'll raise $10,000 in scholarships for women in Sonoma County. I've heard over and over again that the economy is making it very difficult for people to reach into their pocketbooks and donate this year. So last week, I sent out an email to everyone I know in Sonoma County who I thought might be interested in winning wine and/or supporting higher education for women. I instantly received replies from 12 people requesting raffle tickets. In the last month, I've sold about 40 tickets, which is an $800 scholarship for someone out there. In a depressed economy, who's going to sponsor scholarships for local women if not us?

One of my clients recently made a comment to me about the Redwood Empire Food Bank. She said she noticed that often the shoppers who seemed to have the least amount of money were the ones filling their carts and donating bags of groceries to the Food Bank at grocery stores. Her observation was that the people who have seen the most lack and deprivation in their lives seem to be the most generous when it becomes their turn to pay it forward. So, even if your pocketbook is feeling light, there's someone out there who has much less than you do and is still willing to lend a helping hand. The generosity of others never ceases to inspire me.

The Doyle scholarship is defunct, so every dollar helps these women. Let's get this fundraiser moving and sell tickets to everyone we know! If someone you know isn't interested in winning 100 bottles of wine, they can make a direct donation to ABWA. All donations are tax deductible as charitable contributions.

If you want to help us sell raffle tickets, there's still time! Please email Jen Stark, and she will get those tickets to you.

See you soon!
