Greetings!

Well, it's been quite a week revolving around windows... No, not cleaning them, but getting acclimated to Windows 7 and a new laptop.

I've had my current laptop for about 6 years and it has served me well. But after all, 6 years of age is ancient in the technology field. The processor is sluggish, the memory insufficient - sounds a little bit like me!

In general, I'm not one to rush into getting the latest software - I like it to be around for awhile and the bugs worked out. But now that Windows 8 is on the horizon, it was time for me to get 'with it', and upgrade my computer and operating system.

Hence, I've been in the midst of setting up my new laptop, seeing what software is compatible with Windows 7 and which is not. To help make all the time spent on this particular adventure feel more worthwhile, I'll share some of my findings and lessons with you in an article below.

But I'm also using this experience to hear Spirit's wisdom and to observe myself. With all I need to do to make this new laptop fully functional for my work needs and eliminate my old laptop, I'm taking it slowly, and not obsessing. This, I assure you, is a new attitude and response - and my husband, Rog, is my witness! I'm practicing patience, listening for Guidance, and actually being peaceful despite all the extra time and effort I'm devoting to this project while having to place other matters on hold.

Yes, Spirit is all around us, and every situation and circumstance presents an opportunity for us to raise our awareness and to surrender into the peace and knowing that The Presence Is. I am grateful.

Blessings,

What's in a Name?

What's in a name? This past Tuesday I attended the first class of a new 4-part series offered by Unity Center of the Valley in Cottonwood, AZ entitled "I See You." The title stems from the movie Avatar and the class explores our essential I AM identity through celebratory activities.

This morning I came across a blog I wrote quite some time ago that reminded me of the material we are covering in the class. I thought I'd share it with you...

What's in a Name?

Rumi says, "With us the name of everything is its outward appearance; with the Creator, the name of each thing is its inward reality." - From The Rumi Collection, edited by Kabir Helminski, published by Shambhala Publications, Inc.

How shallow it seems to be named based on outward appearances, for appearances are illusionary and not real. What is real is eternal and internal, the essence of a thing.

I may be named Joyce, woman, female, business person, singer, volunteer, friend, lover, wife, and much more. But what it really comes down to - the reality - is my essence, the real me. And, that is I am a holy child of God. My inward being is love, peace, joy.

General Computer Tips
windowsUsing Windows 7 in XP Mode

Here are a few pointers if you're currently using Windows 7 or are contemplating switching over to it.

Like earlier versions, Windows 7 has several editions: Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate. I'm used to having my computers customized and shipped to me; however, this is the first time I bought one at a brick and mortar store and it was pre-packaged. So I landed up with the Home Premium edition of Windows 7.

So here's Tip #1: If you've got software applications that run just fine in Windows XP and don't want to spend the money to upgrade those Ali Babaapplications, you can run Windows 7 in XP mode. Yippee! BUT, you cannot do it in the Home Premium edition. Boo...

Tip #2: ALL editions of Windows 7 are preinstalled in the software. But, like the magic phrase "Open Sesame," the key to opening the cave with the hidden treasure in "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves", one must use something called...

What's the Difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com?

I know that WordPress has quite a buzz these days, but perhaps you didn't know there are TWO WordPresses. Huh?

There is WordPress.org and then there's WordPress.com. Let's go over the basic differences...

WordPress.org provides free blogging software. You can install themes and plugins, run advertisements, edit the database, and modify the source code. While the software is free, it must be installed on a web server and there is usually a monthly hosting fee. You have to purchase your domain name, i.e., angelswithus.org. You are fully responsible for the management of your WordPress.org website - but, you also own your site. WordPress.org allows for great flexibility and functionality through plugins, and the ability to customize code.

With WordPress.com you do not have to download software, pay for hosting, or manage a web server. When you sign up for a WordPress.com blog, you get a free domain name like "spirit.wordpress.com" (owordpress com vs orgr, for a fee, you can have a domain name without the ".wordpress.com" portion). You can choose a free theme, but your choices are limited (to about 200); you cannot upload a custom theme. You do not control the software or the database, you cannot upload plugins, and you cannot change the code (again, for a fee you can get some options here). For no charge, WordPress.com provides web hosting, unlimited database storage with redundancy and backups, automatic software upgrades, community support forums, etc.

There is much information on the Web about the differences between WordPress.org and WordPress.com. You can check out the WordPress.com site for the finer details distinguishing WordPress.org and WordPress.com.

"To know and yet think we do not know is the highest attainment. Not to know and yet think we do know is a disease." - Lao-tzu

It's clear to me that there's a lot I do not know, be it related to technology, life, or Spirit. May I have the wisdom to remain teachable, and I wish the same for you.

bottomgodwordJoyce "came to believe" in a Higher Power about 22 years ago.  Thanks to hearing the novel idea about choosing your own concept of God, Joyce immediately embarked on a new way of thinking, a new way of living, a new way of being in the world and with others.  Since that time of commencing her conscious spiritual journey, she has endeavored to remember The Presence in all that is, all whom she meets, and all that she does - including working with others and their computer projects!
