COOPER IN THE NEWS

On March 3rd Cooper Elementary celebrated Read AcrossApril 2012 America/Dr. Seuss Day. Volunteers from around the community visited Cooper School and read their favorite Dr. Seuss book to our students.

Thank you to all the readers who shared their love of reading with our students. We had a great time! Special thanks to the Cat in the Hat and Thing1 and Thing2 for making the day extra special.

Star Achievers Academy YMCA sponsors after school academic and enrichment clubs during each school semester.

After school clubs help students explore their talents, learn new ones, and expand their personal experiences. With the help of creative educational supervision and qualified staff, Star Achievers Academy YMCA sponsors the clubs to stimulate and broaden our students' experiences so they become more successful in their academic and social development. This month we are proud to feature our Kids Engineering Club. The Kids Engineering Club strives to enrich third-fifth grade students' knowledge and use of engineering and technology by focusing on a design and engineering approach to problem solving.

The sponsor, Joan Harper-Neely, works to develop and enhance students' leadership and public speaking skills by guiding them to become innovative problem solvers, articulate communicators, and considerate collaborators. Club activities include: An introduction to the design & engineering process/activities focused on structures, paper engineering,  creating movement, paper engineering project, aerodynamic principles, building straw kites, structural engineering project and building a hurricane proof house.
