Greetings!

Spring seems to have arrived here in our little mountain community of Topanga Canyon

The days are getting longer, the sun is warm and the oak trees Rose in the garden picking citrus surrounding our house are cluttered with chirping birds.

Over the weekend I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather to wander around the yard gardening and picking sweet oranges from one of our three citrus trees.

Valencia  oranges are in season right now through June, and they're the perfect orange for delicious juice or slicing for snacks... and perfect for my new concoction!

Be sure to check out my latest seasonal recipe down below, homemade Orange Creamsicle Shake. The bright color and nostalgic childhood flavor perfectly complements this beautiful emerging Springtime weather.

In love and service,

~Rose

P.S.

I'd love to hear any thoughts or feedback you have about this newsletter or my new recipe over on the Wellness With Rose facebook page!

Orange Creamsicle Shake Recipe

Like the classic ice-cream treat that inspires it, this refreshing shake combines the zest of orange and the smooth flavor of vanilla. Creamy Orange Shakeand rich, this homemade Orange Creamsicle Shake is sure to satisfy and nourish.

For this shake you'll notice that I used fresh, raw goat milk from an organic goat who lives right here locally in topanga. Local is always best, but any way that you can get some organic raw dairy instead of the pasteurized junk they sell in most stores is awesome. You'll notice that you can also substitute the raw milk for any non-dairy milk of your choice.

Enjoy this nostalgic childhood treat!

Ingredients:

  • 1 large, ripe orange
  • 1 1/2 cups of ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup raw goat or cow milk or dairy-free milk of your choice (coconut, almond, ect.)
  • 2 tsp real vanilla extract
  • 3 Tbs raw coconut palm sugar
  • 4-5 drops of liquid stevia (optional)

Place your peeled orange in a blender and blend very thoroughly.

Add the remaining ingredients and blend again. Serve immediately.

The secret to super thick, and creamy shake is blend, blend, and then blend some more. Keep blending, even if you are sure that all the ice bits are gone. Trust me, it makes a big difference!

You may have to adjust the amount of sweetener to your family's tastes. It is not overwhelmingly sweet, but pleasantly refreshing. The stevia could be omitted altogether, or more/less coconut sugar. This can also be made with raw honey, although it changes the taste of the final result just a bit.

Yields 2 servings
