| FOR HEALTHY LIVING | | |
Last month we introduced you to the first of our our three areas of focus: For Youth Development. This month we'd like to share information about our second area of focus: For Healthy Living.
Behind "For Healthy Living" is the fact that across the nation and right here in Virginia, the Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. With a mission centered on balance, the Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, millions of youth, adults and families receive the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body. |
| STRONG COMMUNITIES | | |
The Y's annual giving campaign, Strong Communities, is wrapping up and we are asking you to make the largest contribution you can. With your contribution, the Y can fulfill its commitment to strengthening our community.
Your support is about more than making sure kids get to do a sailing camp, swim lessons, or soccer. It's about Youth Development: Teaching kids about teamwork, setting goals, taking pride in achieving goals, and developing confidence that translates to multiple life settings. It's about more than rehab patients or the elderly lifting weights and riding a bike. It's about Healthy Living: Maintaining independence and improving quality of life for a longer period of time. It's about Social Responsibility: Inspiring people to serve others in our community through volunteering, and connecting people with our charitable mission to make certain future generations have access to YMCA programs and services.
To ensure our success, please make your contribution by November 30, 2010. In advance, thank you for supporting the Mathews Family YMCA Strong Communities campaign.

| YOUTH FITNESS | | |
The Mathews Family Y and our local 4-H group are teaming up to offer fitness classes to our youth in November & December. We are offering an exercise and nutrition class for 2 weeks on Tuesday & Thursday, November 9-18, from 3-4:30 for grades 4-8. We are also offering our IGNITE program the same days and times from November 30-December 9.
Look for more information in the flyer that is coming home from the schools! |
| YOUTH SUPER SPORTS | |
Youth Super Sports is the YMCA's new progressive youth sports program that combines the marvelous philosophy of past YMCA youth sports programs with new program concepts. Children learn character values as well as sports skills and tactics by incorporating fun and creative games during every practice. Our "games approach" sessions during each practice are designed to better prepare players for competitions. Youth Super Sports programs include; soccer, flag football, basketball, baseball and T-ball.
For more information on Youth Super Sports offered and to register see your YMCA Spirit Guide, call or come in and inquire at the Welcome Center, or go to www.peninsulaymca.org.
Sports offered vary by community; please check with your local YMCA for availability. |
