A NEW YEAR, A NEW YOU!

 

From January 11 through March 7 participate in a workout incentive program designed to encourage members to try different activities. From Yoga to Abs Blast to the elliptical to "Walk with the Y," variety earns you points and points earn you chances to win a great YMCA prize package.  Earn 8-23 points for one entry into the drawing, 24-40 points for 2 entries into the drawing, and 41+ points earns you 3 entries into the drawing.  Register at the Welcome Desk through January 31. 

COMMON SENSE PAIN MANAGEMENT
WITH TROY WYNE
 

Increased energy levels, greater range of motion,

improved athletic performance, and a deeper more restful sleep: participants in this class have reported all of these benefits. Join us on Saturday, January 23rd from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. to learn the underlying cause of pain and simple life-changing techniques to increase your strength and energy levels; restore your flexibility and decrease your pain. Advance registration required. 
 
Fee:  $35 YMCA Member, $45 Program Participant.

 

DIABETES MANAGMENT CLASS

 

Diabetes is a gateway disease which increases your risk for heart attack, kidney disease, blindness, nerve injury, and limb loss. Lifestyle changes in diet, exercise, and nutrition are essential for successful management of this disease. Join us on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Church of Francis de Sales for an educational class led by a medical practitioner, nutritionist, and exercise specialist designed to teach individuals how to live a healthier lifestyle. 

 

Our next session is January 21 - February 25. To register call the church at 725-2776.

 

Sponsored by Gloucester-Mathews Free Clinic, Mathews Family YMCA, and Church of Francis de Sales. This class is free.



INDOOR YOUTH SOCCER 

 

Dribble-Pass-Shoot-Score!  Our coed soccer league focuses on the basic skills of soccer. Session runs January 9 - February 20 tenatively, pending start date of new program director. Open to ages 4-15. Teams are organized based upon the number of kids participating in each age group. A skills clinic is included. Register at the YMCA welcome desk through January 8. Fee: $35 (includes shirt).

 

OUTDOOR YOUTH SOCCER 

 

Season starts February 28. Open to ages 4-15. 

Registration begins January 18. Fee: $45 (includes uniform)

 

KARATE (Shotokon)

 
Increase confidence, improve balance and coordination, and enhance concentration through karate. Participants develop skills at their own pace. Taught be Sensi Henry Gillman. 
 
Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and are open to youth ages 9-17. Register at the welcome desk. Fee: $45 per month per student.

 

NEW! CORE STRENGTH AND TONE  Free Demo! Tuesday, January 5 and 12, 4:15-5:15 pm at Kingston Parish.

 
This class uses the methods of Pilates to unite body and mind, and create a more streamlined shape. Strengthen & tone muscles, improve posture, increase flexibility and balance.
 

With enough interest, the Core Strength & Tone class will officially begin Tuesday, February 3. Fee: $29 for six weeks. You do not need to be a YMCA member to participate.

DRUMS ALIVE!   Family and Kids Beats is simply FUN!

 
Every person was born with the ability to move and feel rhythm. Join us in this unique workout that guides you through a program of drumming, movement, and creative exploration that not only thrills children, but also the entire family. Children ages 6-12 must be accompanied by an adult. Youth ages 13 and up may attend without an adult.
 
Register now for Drums Alive - Family and Kids Beats, Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the Mathews Boys & Girls Club Gym. This is a 6 week program beginning January 9 and ending February 13. The program fee is $29 for the first family member and $10 for each additional family member. Registration deadline is January 4.

 

ADULT CO-ED VOLLEYBALL

 

Back by popular demand! Our next session of co-ed volleyball will include a 15 minute coaching clinic to teach basic skills such as serving and passing. Grab some friends or co-workers and join us for this recreational volleyball league.

 

January 6 through February 24, at the Mathews Boys & Girls Club. 

Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Cost is $29 for 8 weeks, or $7 to drop in. Players do not have to be YMCA members.
