The Cambodian Health Committee and Aeras Announce their First Collaborative Effort In Cambodia

Study to Enroll Up To 1,000 Infants and Children Under Five
The Cambodian Health Committee, with support from Aeras, is initiating a cross sectional epidemiology study in Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia beginning this month. This six month study will enroll up to 1,000 infants and children less than five years old. The primary objective of the study is to estimate the prevalence of tuberculosis among BCG-vaccinated children in two operational districts of Svay Rieng Province. The study will provide Aeras with information and data on the feasibility of conducting clinical trials in Cambodia. Further, the study is anticipated to help guide the national TB program in Cambodia towards achieving adequate treatment of TB in children.

Aeras to Provide Data Management and Biostatistics Expertise to TB Alliance

Sharing of Resources, Knowledge Among Research Groups Increases Efficiency of TB Efforts

Aeras has entered into an agreement with the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development (TB Alliance) to provide clinical trial expertise to a partner non-profit research group pursuing new tools to fight tuberculosis.  Aeras will provide data management, biostatistics and medical writing services for a Phase II TB drug clinical trial sponsored by the TB Alliance, a product development partnership (PDP) with a mission to develop new TB drug therapies.  This is Aeras' first collaboration deploying its in-house data management and biostatistics capacity for an external partner and shows the efficiencies that can be created through cross-PDP collaborations.

1958 - 2010

We are deeply saddened by the recent loss of a valued member of the Aeras team, Yasir Skeiky, who passed away on June 13, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Yasir showed remarkable optimism, courage and determination in the face of a lengthy and difficult illness, setting an extraordinary example for those of us who had the privilege to know him.  We mourn his passing, but are grateful for the time we had with him and the opportunity to have him as a colleague and friend.

2nd South Africa Tuberculosis Conference

Forging Strategic Partnerships to Fight TB and HIV
Over 2500 people gathered in Durban, South Africa on June 1-4 for the 2nd South Africa Tuberculosis Conference, the theme of which was  "Forging Strategic Partnerships to Fight TB and HIV."  South Africa and the Southern African region face tremendous challenges in TB and TB/HIV, and this conference provided participants with an opportunity to review and discuss the status of the epidemics, progress that has been made and innovative new approaches to fight the TB epidemic in the era of HIV.  Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi spoke at the opening of the conference, emphasizing the need for South Africa to address TB and HIV as co-epidemics and to strengthen collaboration between TB and HIV services.  Minister Motsoaledi also stated that the fight against TB extends beyond the Department of Health, and will require participation and commitment by all sectors.
