Hello!

The sun is shining, the watermelon is ripe and it is time for fireworks.

Read on to learn about our lifesaving efforts and how you can get involved:

It Was Epic!

"EPIC DAY!" Having my father (kidney recipient) with me made for an unforgettable day."

-Jeff Stripling, Living Donor, Century Rider

2012 has been Team Transplant's most epic year yet!  Not only have we raised more than ever, we also heard from many riders that this year it was "bigger and better than ever."  Living donors, transplant recipients, and those who are waiting for a transplant came together to raise awareness of organ donation and to celebrate lives saved through transplantation. By the numbers
  • Total Raised: $91,329 (excluding over $11k in in-kind donations) - 43% increase!
  • Number of Riders: 132, including 23 living donors and transplant recipients which is a 29% increase over last year. Team Transplant had the largest team at the Subaru Elephant Rock for the 4th year in a row!
  • Lt. Governor Joe Garcia rode with Team Transplant and gave a speech at the event expo, heard by thousands of participants.
  • 800+ people pitched in with donations to support our lifesaving mission.
  • 400+ volunteer hours went into making Team Transplant a success.
  • Thank you to everyone who attended Team Transplant After Party at Old Chicago. Winners of the raffle won prizes such as a Tie-rod bike rack, Coors Clubs Rockies tickets, gift cards to Vine Street Pub, tickets to "Becoming Van Gogh" VIP reception and tour at the Denver Art Museum, and more!   Many thanks to our sponsors!

Imelda's Story

Our Patient Assistance Program is the only one in the country that will provide funding in grants to people no matter what their legal status is in the U.S.  Although we receive many applications from transplant centers across the country, one patient's story has particularly touched us.

32 year old Imelda had a kidney transplant in 2009.  After leaving an abusive marriage, for the good of her and her now 13 year old daughter, Imelda was having troubles with her insurance payments and was unable to pay for her anti-rejection medications.

Imelda does not have family that she can turn to for financial assistance. Desperate for help and feeling that she would not be able to reinstate her insurance, Imelda feared she would lose the kidney that she has fought so hard to get.  She feared going back on dialysis. Her greatest fear was that she would be unable to take a good care of her daughter.

When her social worker contacted us we immediately knew that we would be able to help Imelda, and we did!

Imelda received a grant from us that covered her insurance premiums for 2 months, giving her an opportunity to catch up with the payments and reinstate her insurance.

The Foundation's Young Professionals Group,  Transplant Leadership Council (TLC) is in charge of reviewing grant applications.  There are many more like Imelda that you can assist.

  • Read the testimonials from patients who have been assisted by the Foundation and inspire others to contribute.

As always, thank you for your support and commitment in the fight to save more lives through organ and tissue donation.

With appreciation,
