LAST CHANCE TO
SAVE THE DUNES
Greetings!

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT E-NEWSLETTER YOU WILL EVER RECEIVE FROM PRESERVE THE DUNES ..

The legislative committees have both approved an amendment to the Sand Dune Protection & Management Act.   Tomorrow, it will be before the full House as House Bill 5647 and the Senate as Senate Bill 1110. This a terrible bill. It will surely lead to severe degradation of the dunes.

It is almost assured that it will pass in the House & Senate. BUT the Governor has stated reservations about the bill. Our best chance of stopping adoption is his veto.

We would like to convince several Republican legislators to vote against it, in the hopes that this will encourage his veto. PLEASE call your Representative and Senator and give them your name (they will ask for your address, so give your Michigan address if you have one) and state that you oppose House Bill 5647 - Senate Bill 1110 as appropriate. Emails are o.k. too, but a call is really simple and effective.

And then, forward this email to neighbors, friends and family members.

I have posted a critique of the bill from Michigan Environmental Council on our website at http://www.sosdunes.org/CriticalDunesBills2012.pdf

The bill itself is at http://www.sosdunes.org/2012-HIB-5647

As soon as possible, please call and/or email your Representative and Senator stating your opposition .

This is IMPORTANT!!!!

As a footnote. I was at the House' committee meeting in Lansing yesterday and it was clear that the Representatives had either not read the bill or were simply voting for the real estate and homebuilder interests with no concern for the dunes.  Charles
