Greetings!

Allow me to join the chorus of people who are wishing you a Happy New Year.  I thank God for the blessings of 2011 and anticipate His continued provision for the year ahead.

It was such a blessing to worship with everyone on Christmas Eve.  At our two services we had a combined total of 451 people, and we were able to reach our goal for the special Christmas offering, "Blessed To Be A Blessing."  I will have more to say about this as our final totals are made available.

I know that Christmas, as far as the calendar is concerned, has come and gone for another year.  But the blessing of our Savior's birth and the life lessons surrounding His advent are meant for us to contemplate and apply all year long.  So let me encourage you to think on the following.

In Luke 1, the angel Gabriel told Mary that God was planning to do something incredible... something that was humanly impossible.  A virgin would give birth to the Son of God.  From a scientific or humanistic perspective this is impossible.  Yet that was exactly what God did.

You see, when God is involved the impossible becomes possible.  So what is God calling you to do in the year ahead for His glory and the good of others?  Does the thought of doing God's will scare you?  Well guess what.  God's Word is still as true today as it was 2,000 years ago, and it says, "nothing is impossible with God" (Luke 1:37 NLT).  Back then, God wanted to bring salvation to everyone.  This required Mary to not only believe God, but she also had to make the necessary adjustments to facilitate the incredible work God planned to accomplish through her.

What about you and me in the year ahead?  Do we truly believe that nothing is impossible for God?  Are we willing to make the necessary adjustments to our lives in order to see God do His mighty work in and through us?

It was missionary William Carey who said "Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God."  What will our faith and the way we live our lives communicate to others about the greatness of our God?

May the God who is "able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think" continue to be your provider and guide in year ahead (see Eph. 3:20 KJV).

Women's Ministry Fellowship
We will be having our next fellowship event at the church on Sunday, January 22, at 5:30 p.m.  This event will be a women's movie night featuring "One Night With The King"... the story of Esther.  If you would like to know more information, please contact Kim Talbert at kim.talbert@texhomeland.com or call/text 936-203-0704.  You can also talk with her in the foyer on Sunday mornings about this and other opportunities in our Women's Ministry.
Life Groups

Life Groups are not simply a Bible study, they are so much more.  At Life Group meetings, we hang out, get to know each other, worship God, study His Word, and then we DO his work!  At Fellowship of Montgomery, we are doers of God's Word and not just hearers.  So, join a Life Group today.  For more information on how to become involved please email us at info@fellowshipofmontgomery.net, or you can find out more on our website.

This month, we will be starting a series titled Guardrails.  Guardrails will be the theme of our sermon series, but we will also be kicking off our Life Groups for the new year with this series on January 8th.  There are 6 different Life Groups that meet throughout the week at different locations.  If you have not already signed up for one, please contact us to receive some more information.  Have a brief look at what this series is about:

[Guardrails: a system designed to keep vehicles from straying into dangerous or off-limit areas.] They're everywhere, but they don't really get much attention . . . until somebody hits one. And then, more often than not, it is a lifesaver. Ever wonder what it would be like to have guardrails in other areas of your life-areas where culture baits you to the edge of disaster and then chastises you when you step across the line? Your friendships. Your finances. Your marriage.  Maybe your greatest regret could have been avoided if you had established guardrails.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

Happy New Years and I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas holidays as much as we did!  The Christmas Eve services went smoothly and we are so happy that we had so many guests in attendance.  We pray that next year will be even bigger and better!

This year is a time for giving of many things! One of them being of your talents, and no time is better than NOW to let us know about your musical gifts.  We would like to invite our members to be a part of our worship team.  We will arrange auditions by appointment after church services on Sundays.

My prayer is that you will have a happy and blessed New Year.  The worship band and I look forward to lifting our praises to God with you in the year ahead!

UNION Weekend
UNION Weekend is designed to be a life-changing experience for students from all over our community to come together, encounter God, and build deeper relationships with other students. Students spend the weekend in small groups in homes of church members, led by great leaders who lead groups to seek, question, and encounter truth.  Large group gatherings are high energy, spiritually focused times for worship, teaching, and serving.

Thank you for all of those that have committed to help during this weekend.  We have filled all the spots for food, host homes, and leaders, but currently we are in need of more drivers.  If you are willing to help out in that area please contact Brian at brian@fellowshiofmontgomery.net.  Also, parents don't forget that the deadline to turn in your students UNION Weekend Packet is Sunday, January 8th.  You can pick up a packet in the foyer or click on this link to print one out.
UNION Worship Gathering: January 29th
Sunday, January 29th, students and leaders and adults from all over our community, regardless of denomination, age or race, will unite at 6:00 pm in the Montgomery High School Auditorium as one community, one church, to worship one God. It is sure to be rich time of worship. Adults and students alike please consider joining us as we spend time worshiping and growing our love relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mission New Orleans Interest Meeting

We will be having an information and interest meeting regarding a summer mission trip opportunity to New Orleans. On Sunday, January 22, following the second service we will have a brief meeting to speak with those who might be interested in participating.  This will be an opportunity for both students and adult sponsors to serve in New Orleans. FM Student Ministry

FM Student Update:

Wednesday Nights
:

This month, we will be doing a study called Simplify Your Life. If it seems like students are doing more today than they ever have be- fore, it's because, well, they are. Everyone is busy and students are no exception. In this series we take a look at how the abundance of things to do slowly sap away any time we may have to spend developing the most important relationship - our relationship with Jesus and the people most important to us. Join us Wednesdays at 6:45 for a time of studying God's Word, fellowship, free food, and worship.

FM Student Text Group:  We have a new way for parents and students to be updated each week for events and updates from the student ministry.  Text fomyouth to 23559 and create you own unique username.  We will stop using the current text system by the end of November; so we would love to keep your informed with this system.

Coats for the Cold Drive
: January through February we will be collecting coats to take to those that are homeless in our com
munity. You can drop off coats on Wednesday nights in the drop-off box by the stage, and we will deliver this in February during our feeding the homeless mission project.

FM Student Winter Calendar/Newsletter & Parent Page:  Click on this link to see the new calendar/newsletter of all that we will be studying the next few months, calendar of events, and opportunities to get plugged in.  Also, we have a subscription that is free for parent to help you understand youth culture, things that your teen is going through, and other interesting facts.  If you are interested in checking these out, please click on this link!

FM Student Life Groups

We will be kicking our Life Groups back off on Monday, January 23rd. This quarter we will be starting in January and going through February each Monday at 6:00p. This month we are studying Once Upon a Parable. Jesus talks about the Kingdom of God by telling stories, commenting on the world around Him, and helping us see that the Kingdom of God is bigger and broader than we can ever imagine. Sometimes an idea is so big and beautiful that the only way to talk about it is to tell a story. The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed that grows into a wild bush, yeast that works its way through dough, food coloring that transforms the color of water, the smell of bacon that fills a room, a yawn that springs from face to face, a YouTube video that circles the Internet. We are a part of this big and beautiful story. How will we tell it? How will we bring it to life?  Once Upon a Parable helps preteens discover the true meaning of the Kingdom of God.

If you have any questions or would like to know how to get plugged in, please contact Rockey Butler at rockey@fellowshipofmontgomery.net.
